Hey folks. So I’ve noticed a few hydroids growing here and there on my live rock in my 9 week old tank. They’re super small and pretty sparse. I’d say they’re at most an eighth of an inch long. They’re the kind with a small stem and a fan at the end. The problem is that all of the research I’ve done so far comes back with conflicting information. Some people say it’s a totally normal phase for a new tank to go through while other people make it sound like my tank has the plague. Should I be worried or should I leave it alone for now?
Sorry for the low quality of the image... They’re so small that it’s hard to get a good picture of them. Any advice?
Thanks!

I've had no experience with them. So lets try for some help.

@HolisticBear

Do you have experience with those?

Thanks!!

Hard to tell from the picture. If you think they are digitate hydroids, I think it's possible most of the information you read could be accurate rather than conflicting. Because the variable is time. Apparently they are hard to keep alive for a "long" time, but maybe they increase for months until they disappear eight months from now. Or anything in-between

fish bendazole is a reef safe treatment that takes them out. Sadly it seems sold out at Amazon and most places. There are some threads on R2R. Here is a 12 pack, you probably only need 1 packet. They used to sell a 3 pack for much less money
Some recently came in on the base of an LPS I purchased, I just super-glued their hole.

You can pull or cut them off but starve them. They feed off suspended food and starvation will end their life

so I've definitely been feeding less to get rid of them but I have a question for you all... I'm going to do a water change on friday. Is it possible to scrub these off as I siphon them up or are hydroids more like apestasia where if I scrub them off they'll just grow back?
