I have some zoes that have hydroids growing on some frags I just recieved, is there a way to remove them or should I just let them be.

If they are hydroids remove them right away. They grow like crazy and most of them sting coral. The zoas will look much better after you remove them.

how do you remove them. do you just wipe them off with your finger

I have always used tweezers. Make sure to get off the hair looking stalks that they attach with. Otherwise they will just grow back.

Wait so what do hydroids look like? On an acan from I got, it looks like each one has a tiny dot "home" with 2 little nearly transparent, short feelers/antennae

Here's an old pic of some Pom Pom hydroids on a zoa frag

Thats Hydroids. All of them that I have seen look like that or really close to it. Some of them will sting the coral pretty bad.

Get rid of them fast!!! I fought them once and boy do they not die at all. I even torched the rocks with fire and they live through them. The only was i got rid of them was use tweezers to pick them off but there was so many that i gave up and took all my rocks out and let them dry out for a few months.

Jeff - I think I know what you are talking about. They have little white tips when they come out of there hole? If so I have plenty of those on the rock and have never seen or heard of them causing an issue.

What do they do to the zoas? I also have not ever had any problems with them near any of mine.
I have also heard that pods will eat zoas, but I have yet to see this. I have them all over the tank and crawling over the zoas. Sometimes they will make a polyp close for a short time, but no losses from them.

mine may not be hydroids then, because they are groing on the polyp itself and are only the size of a pin head. They look like a tiny stem with little feelers on the end

Sounds like hydroids to me. They will grow right out of a zoa stalk/stem. Tough to get rid of, persistence and tweezers.

I agree, they sound like hydroids. The will grow onto the stalk of coral such as zoas. Some sting and some do not. Some of them have large heads while others are very tiny.
