I’ve got tons of these little jellyfish like things. Are they hydroids? Anything to worry about?

I have had these a few times before. They tend to go away on their own. They don’t need light to grow, only nutrients. Kind of a mystery to me how they explode in population, and then quickly die off.

Nutrients? They’re in a tank that’s just been cycling live rock for over a mth. We put tiny amounts of pellets in every 2 days to keep cycle going. I notice they die off pretty quick when I turn Powerheads on. Not a big fan of flow I guess. Anything to worry about? Will they sting my fish? Fish are scheduled to go in mid July

I had the same, they exploded I'm my aquarium and then slowly dissapeared until they were all gone

I had this when I cycled my 1st tank 2 yrs ago. But that was a FOWLR tank. And there weren’t nearly as many. This tank will have corals. Do they harm corals at all?

If there’s nothing else to outcompete them for nutrients, then they will survive. I’m assuming you’re cycling with live rock? Also, pellets are packed with nutrients. I wouldn’t worry about them too much. Unless they take over your tank. But like I said, they always went away on their own for me. They didn’t sting my fish. But I know they’ll sting corals that are nearby.

Yes. Cycling w live rock.
No corals in there just yet. I’ve got a few waiting to undergo dipping and then a fallow period for observation. Hoping they’ll be gone by the time corals are ready to go in. I wonder if the fish will eat them...

I think I’ve read on here that peppermint shrimp will eat them. Not sure which type of peppermint. And there’s no guarantee they’ll eat them. You could try to starve them by discontinuing pellets. Your cycle will be fine without them.

I’ll have to look into this option. Thank you

Good luck! I think for my next tank, I’m using dry rock for my cycle:p No surprises. I love LR but I can’t tell you how many crabs I’ve found.

They never bothered any corals but my corals did not overtake them. Scrubbing them off rocks once they set In doesn't work that well either and in the end it just helps them spread if your not careful

Are we talking about the same thing? Little floating jellyfish like guys? Hang out on the glass?

They eventually land on rocks and change form, look it up! They turn Into very small polyps that have long tentacles. The jellyfish are their juvenile form

Ohhhh they’re the same thing. I get it. I found them on the list of common hitchhikers but thought there was an error in the pic because they look so different. That’s why I asked on here for a positive ID. Didn’t even occur to me that they’re different stages of the same thing. Thx
