Hey guys, I initially was going to use this stand for a 50g glass lowboy but ended up going with a hydroponic tub. It is 40 gallons and 2’x4’. The tub fits onto the stand but I was wondering it i needed to build support up around the top rim. This would likely mean building an entirely new stand. Please let me know. I’ve attatched pics below of my setup and one with upper support. Thanks ! 2nd photo credit to @steveb

Do you think using aluminum angle stock that would fit under the rim and just pop rivit it to the top of the rim would work?
I considered somthing like this not sure how feasible it’d be

The tub has to have some rigidity to it if it's for hydroponics so I would guess 1/8" x 1" x 1" would be more than adequate. You could put a little bit of silicone on the rivet when you set it to give some water proofing and set them 6" - 8" apart.

So you think it wouldn’t be wise to leave it as is?

I'm using a couple hydroponics tubs and there's some bowing but they're 14" deep. Fill yours up toteh top and see how much bowing you get.
Mines only about 9 inches…I’d love to see some pics of your setup

Here's a pic, I lost everything thing in the February freeze so what's in it now is just overflow I was able to take out of display tanks. Water movement is just a closed loop airlift (no pumps). PXL_20210922_153308723.jpg
Nice setup, it’s too bad you lost everything

Any other opinions would be greatly appreciated. And thank you in advance, everyone is always so helpful!!

Here’s bowing before and after water….seems minimal

I would be worried about the thin rim holding all the weight of the tub. Their not designed to be used like that, I would support the bottom for fear of the top rim breaking off and causing it to fall.
