So I just took apart my hygger mini wavemaker for the first time to remove a snail that got into it. I found a metal pump case.

If you have a hygger mini does yours also look like this?
I don't think it is supposed to and I'm afraid it will rust.
Is this normal? I am purchasing something else anyway.

In this video his is plastic @3:18

I have a few jebao slw's I like for budget powerheads but I'll admit I haven't taken them apart yet. Neros too, which I have taken apart and are all plastic/sealed

Just looked at that pH on Amazon and it mentions for saltwater... Wonder if it's titanium?
I was going to say it was cheap so I don't think so but I bought this awhile ago and just didn't use it.

Wow, it is 100 bucks...
I don't think it is titanium but is there a way to tell?

It is really weird the one in the video is plastic and mine is not though..

Idk how to tell other than maybe a tiny stamp on it somewhere or ask the manufacturer. My heaters are titanium and they were pretty cheap fwiw; idk if that's a good gauge or not..

Was considering one of their lights for my 20 but decided to splurge and get an XR15 as it will eventually make it to a 40 but I'm also hesitant to buy these types of products and often wonder on quality of parts. Granted this could be something perfectly fine and don't recall any complains when researching the company overall. When in doubt. I prefer to cry once and get over it.

Having said that. Don't see any corrosion and only way to find out would be ICP at which point just buy a better product with a consistent record.

Yeah I think anything submerged in salt 24/7 (or even less) should be carefully considered. I bought some junk frag holder off BRS a while back and it had an exposed magnet...just a plain magnet glued on. Now I'm not a chemist/scientist but I thought that was a nono. It's on the fridge now :)

Would seem logical exposed magnets not good but I also don't know and would prefer playing it safe and going with one enclosed although you probably could have sealed it yourself with some aquarium safe epoxy. Probably cheaper to just get one like that already. Is that what you replaced it with?

It was this thing. Interestingly the picture now shows a orange seal on the inside magnet. Mine doesn't have that. Yeah I could have but it was aweful looking under the light imo. The rack I have now has fully encased magnets; so are all the other magnets on everything that uses one so I guess I just assumed that was an important thing
