I'm thinking about throwing two Hyper Violet UV LEDs over my tank to see if they add anything. I have a Kessil right now and I like the color quite a bit, but I like to tinker and thought it might be cool to see more in that spectrum. Anyone tried them before? I'm thinking of just using a very simple driver and mount them with a piece of aluminum rod for a heatsink. The intensity would be preset on the driver and it would turn on and off with the Kessil.

The 420nm will add a bit more colour pop. They are much less intense than the 450nm XT-E Royal Blue which unlike the 465nm Royal Blue offers colour pop as well.

They are a Grow Spectrum so they will not hurt. I added them to my DIY Fixture with good results.

I like intensity to bring out the colours of SPS. Above 350-500 Par SPS Corals develop reflective pigments. Depending on the specific SPS this can turn an Average Coral into a High End one.

Still tweaking our system but will post SPS Pics Soon

Thanks. That's what I was pushing for. I'll post pics if I can get one that shows an appreciable difference.

Bill do you have any references for that or is this from your own experince? If from an article, I'd be grateful for a link so I can read up on this matter.

Also, would love to see photos of your SPS system under LED's. I am a MH and T5 fan, but after seeing a few local tanks, I've been convinced about LED's colouring up Acropora decently and will be making the switch to 100% LED's soon.

Thanks.

My experience with LEDs is almost 7 years. We started selling DIY Kits initially and then in the last couple years have been doing high end domestic LED Fixtures. Our latest is the Sirius XTC which will be released soon.

Google Photoinhibition in SPS Corals. There is some good research but not surprisingly some of the published research contradicts other research much like global warming...oops climate change...

I'm old school MH 400 watt or better. The best SPS tanks I've seen including my own have been lit with 400 Watt MH and 110 watt VHO. This became rather expensive given the size of my system so I decided to emulate this intensity and spectrum with LEDs.

My personal SPS Tank had to be taken down due to Blue Ridge Coral taking over. Here are some pics of a local tank using our LEDs with our recommend intensity of 200 PAR on the sand bed.
