Hypes SPS Dropoff Peninsula

So I put the reactor online Tuesday night. Nitrates are currently at 2-3 (didnt get a chance to test phosphates but ill do that later) I plan to take pics every few days to keep track of growth and nutrient levels. Reactor is currently on a 12 hour light cycle and low flow (40 gph)

Day 1

How do you set this up?
Since I may stay sumpless this would be something I'd like to add, do you need an AIO tank or does it work for all?

It works with any setup ...you could put in a sump, hang it on the back of your tank or place it somewhere close. All you need is hosing, clamps and a small pump that pumps water from your tank to the reactor and back to your tank.

Sweet I'll have to look into them!
Also would they be able to go in the stand and run up to the tank?

Quick update

Added a couple of test sps frags. Ill keep an eye on them over the next two weeks and if they do well. Ill pickup a bunch more. So far the tank has a few invertebrates. Pederson shrimp, scarlet hermits and a pom pom crab. I had a setback with adding fish. I picked up a sunburst anthias and I went through my routine of acclimation before adding him to the QT and while drip acclimating in a small bucket with a heater/air pump. The friggin heater (tetra 26447 50 watt) malfunctioned superheated the bucket and killed him

So I have to wait a bit to pick up another. In more positive news the macroalgae reactor is working great. Heres a pic after a week of growth. Im going to shorten the photoperiod to 8 hours since nitrates are at 0.

So a few updates.I came across a deal that was too good to pass up on the "E" version of the Pax reactor. The main reason I decided to upgrade was this model includes quick disconnects so its much easier to do maintenance. Additionally there is a calcium reactor injection assembly that you can add to it and not too mention its about double the size of my current reactor so more room for chaeto! Now just have to set it up...

Secondly this is the first time ive seen this crab in months and it looks shes been busy lol. Theres no chance of the eggs being fertilized but its pretty cool to see nonetheless.

Finally heres a few shots of of the first sps frags I added a few weeks ago. So far they're doing pretty good. slow and steady..

How about an update rehype. I'm interested in the rossmont pumps you had and how you like them...

Looking good Rehype, waiting to see this develop!

Thanks alot rakie!

Hey guys sorry for the lack of the updates. Tank has been on autopilot for a bit. I added a handful of frags after the second month and they have done ok so far but Im going to wait for the tank to mature a bit more before I add any new ones. Heres some pics:

I also decided to swap out the Rossmont pumps with the new Aqamai pumps. I was mostly unhappy with the size of the pump (They were a bit too bulky in my tank) Other than that they are well built and move alot of water. The controller is pretty cool too as its easy to configure and controls both pumps at the same time. The negative is its absolutely required for any controllability and its pricey ($200) But these pumps are tiny! They barely take up any space and its super easy to direct the flow with their suction cup mount. They're also very easy to configure by creating a profile using the aqamai app. One of the easiest pumps to program IME. I customized the flow patterns to change every 30 minutes. Anyone with a nano and considering new pumps should give these a close look. Im super impressed so far as they offer alot of value in a small package.

I purchased two after seeing them at NY RAP. My experience is that their Android app does not work at all. You must use the iPhone app. I purchased two powerheads and I could not get the controllability to work at all until I completely powered one off and set them up invididualy.

The size is great, the mount is flexible thou I wish it was just a tad more secure. However the app feels buggy and I have a bit of buyers remorse after spending so much time with the Android app.

I'm cautiously optimistic they are just a few software updates away from delivering the demo I saw at NY RAP. Premium Aquatics has them for $120

Thanks for the feedback Michael. I initially had the same issues with the andrioid app but since the 2.3 update I havent had any issues programming them. Are you still having issues since the update?

Anyone know of Bowing issues with the acrylic drop-off abyss series?

Those pumps look really great, how do you like them after a few months?

They are great but the kps pumps are a bit underpowered for tanks over 20 gallons IMO I ended up switching to jebao pumps
