I'm following a few hypo threads now that I have a pretty bad case of ich in my tank because I'm an idiot and bought a fish from a somewhat crappy LFS and did not qt. I already lost my powder brown tang and some other fish are starting to show some decent spots and rubbing. I have a spare 75 gallon that I was going to do hypo on since I can't use copper with my wrasse, but I have been seeing that hypo is not 100% against killing of this crappy parasite. Does anyone have any insight on this? or did these people just do the hypo method wrong/not long enough

You'll have to keep your DT tank fallow for 2.5 months, by hypo only need for 2 weeks. 1.009 SG

its definitely ich. its tiny salt like spots on the fish. its been going on for about a month now. figured if it was velvet it would have wiped out the tank already

and the fish are rubbing so thats why I kind of figured it was ich.

After a month might be safe to count the spots on the fish as a way to differentiate to be sure. Able to count most, ich. Too many or too small to count, velvet.

I have about 7 little spots on my purple tang right now, some spots on a royal grammar and my lawnmower blenny is rubbing on the sand. I might just try copper and just raise it real slow and see how the wrasse does. or just QT him and the yellow accessor in a separate room with TTM

Chelated copper like Copper Power, when increased slowly over 5-7 days of small doses can work well on copper sensitive fish like wrasses. A Hanna High Level Copper Checker is invaluable in monitoring the copper level. Many wrasses and other copper sensitive fish have been lost to overdosing of copper using the API, Red Sea, etc. color "guessing" test kits.

is there a website that sells it? all I've been finding is Walmart and amazon
Amazon for the Copper Power (blue) not the green
BRS (Bulk Reef Supply) for the Hanna HL Copper Checker

what kind of wrasse? my melanarus was in .70 copper (using the idiotic stick the stick in powder and swirl test kit). the hannah meter is worth its weight in gold!!

ok, maybe not gold... but the typical copper test kits are a joke.

I have a melanarus as well. Purple tang, two cardinals, two clowns, yellow accessor, two firefish, exquisite firefish, flame hawk, royal grammar and a goby . should these all be good in the copper too?

nice work man!! I dont't know why but I really get excited when people decide to do things right and care for there animals.

I think all your fish will be fine in copper. Just ramp it up over a few days and watch for obvious signs of stress like heavy breathing.

you could probably QT a clown in gasoline there are so hardy. lol

the worst part is going to be trying to catch all these fish. What about my mandarin. if I don't take him out is there a possibility that he will still carry ich?

Mandys dont have scales so have a thick slime coat and could act as a reservoir for parasites if itself is not showing any symptoms.

To feed while in qt. a brine shrimp hatchery is probably your best bet.

poop looks like Im setting up a hatchery too in a ten gallon tank
