I'm in the process of fallowing my systems after confirming the presence of ich, and I have a question about using hyposalinity to speed the process. Based on the information posted by @Humblefish hyposalinity can prevent ich eggs from hatching if left at 1.009 for 5 days.
Based on this information, I've been thinking about removing all of the animals from one system (it's less than 2 months old, so there's a Tang and a small cuc), draining out as much water as I can, then replacing it with DI water to crash the salinity down as close as I can to zero.
How long would I need to keep the salinity this low? Would 2 weeks be enough, or should I play it safe and wait the full 30 days normally used for hypo?
Also- does anyone know if moving from salt to fresh water will destroy the bio filter? That's less important, but it might be good to watch for.
