I’m guessing this is Dinos?

after my water changes i always get diatoms growing on my sand which is no doubt my RODI unit messing things up (I bought a cheap one on eBay which I now regret). Awaiting my TDS to arrive now so I can check it.
But recently after my last water change I’ve notice what I thought were diatoms, having a sort of brown hair algea coated in with it on the sand. Would this be Dinos?

I had some cyano the other day but it looked very different to this. I thought cyano is a red slime?

Tank looks newer. I had that until about the 8 month mark. Looks like Dinos to me.

If it is dinos, would a blackout work to get rid of it before it gets worse?

It's not Dino.

Cyanobacteria presents differently, comes in black, green, red. Dino covers everything with air bubble formation as the lighting cycle increases during the day.

I have seen some bubbles, on the end of stringy algea

If not a cyano than a diatom...that's just part of the new tank cycle...

No its an aquareef 400 so fairly big. Almost been running 5 months now but I've had diatoms before but this seems different.

So my TDS meter came today. My rodi unit is producing water at 153! It’s only just under 5 months old. Strangely my tap water was registering at 143?

I've taken the hit and bought a proper unit as the last one I had, I got cheap on ebay.

Wow!! The ro is making the water dirtier! I would hold off on WC until the new one arrives....

Yeah definitely. Hopefully next water change will actually do my tank some good! Should be here within 7 days so will do bi-weekly change this time

If you really do have Dyno, and you've already tried minimizing nutrients (if that's possibly) and did the water changes (after the new ro/do) AND you're still having problems, you can use a product called DINO X. I've used it before, and it worked really well for me.

So got home from work today and I’m pretty sure it’s definitely Dinos. Strands of algea on a lot of my rocks with bubbles on the tips of them. dang it

The Dino's are part of the tank cycle. Trying to get rid of them now isn't a great idea, IMHO. Every time that I attempted to outsmart the cycle, it only delayed it. I know the Dino's suck for a while, but there aren't any shortcuts. Get your new ro/di, do a water change, remove the excess Dinos and leave the skimmer on. This is the patience part that sux.

I suppose Im just reading about it takin over tanks and people wanting to shut theirs down because of it haha. I'll ride it out and hope for the best.
