I’m scared my fallow will fail

250 gallon tank. Rocks sitting on top of sand. I’m afraid that my rock work has anoxic areas where ich will hibernate. My tank is 81F and my goal is to do 76 day fallow.

My powerheads are on full power. How likely will it be that I will fail fallow?

There is no reasonable expectation that 76 days, at 81 degrees won't be 100% effective at clearing an aquarium of all fish parasites (aside from bacteria). The 76 day value came from a single study, of ich tomonts in a xeric culture (no bacteria). Colorni himself wrote multiple times that the full life cycle, in aquarium conditions is no longer than 35 days after the source of new tomonts has been removed (he never saw infective tomites after 28 days).

More likely, if you run into an issue, it will be a result of some failure in the quarantine process in the new fish themselves. Even the best quarantine process is only effective to a certain degree, or only for certain parasites.

Jay, this is true for everything but uronema, right? I've never dealt with that one myself, but I've noticed several posts about it the past couple months. Thanks

I think this fear is completely irrational and totally warranted. I say that because two weeks ago, I was terrified as well.

Do the process, wait the days, keep everything separate. It's all we can do.

I lost half of my fish in very short order to velvet and the remediation from that sucked. I don't ever want to do it again.

I read this sentence 10 times and I don’t understand. Are you saying there’s no way ich will be 100% eradicated after my fallow or are you saying that it will be 100%?
