I accidentally exposed my sponge to air!

I was doing a water change on the lobster tank and I forgot about the tall tree sponge. I just cut off the tips that were exposed to air! And the other small tree did die on me but it’ll be interesting to see how it this does now that I’m dosing silica. I’m up for the challenge. The yellow ball sponge is fine. Have you ever exposed a tree sponge to air by accident? Did it survive? I have to think in the ocean many of these organisms are exposed to low and high tides along with extreme swings and they survive/adapt.

I would think so too, but maybe someone knows for sure

Look at the write-up on them for sale at kp aquatics. It said they've dealt with thousands of Florida sponges and that exposing them to air and dying is a myth.

Finger sponge suffers the most. Ive seen various sponge recover - some with bald area over the last couple of decades

It was probably unnecessary to cut off the tips tbh
