A couple of days ago I had this feeling of impending doom, and now I fear it has come to pass. This morning just before I was to leave for work I took a quick peek into the dark tank....... I was sad to see my tiger conch dead, and my tiger cowrie not looking much better.
I hsd no time to check any of my parameters, so am expecting a full crash will greet me when I get back home in 11 more hours

I am sorry to read it and do keep us posted ... I keep wondering what actually was wrong with the tank that gave you that strange feeling a few days ago .. again sorry

Back 15 yrs or so I had one problem after another with my tanks....finally drove me out of the hobby.
My feeling of doom the other day was me being paranoid I thought, since everything was going so well.
I hope I find my tank in good shape when I get home tonight......maybe it died from being picked by a crab or something...... I'll know more tonight

Well I hope so for you too and that it was predation and not something major that is wrong with the tank ...

Well, everything is just fine. All my parameters are fine
Temp 79
SG: 1.026
Ammonia: 0
NO3: 0
NO4: 0
PO4: 0.2
Calcium: 460
Alk: 11

I am going to assume the conch was the victim of a hermit crab attack.
I am relieved. I think I am still gonna do a small water change.

I had a similar experience recently with my conch and snails. I finally caught the culprit in the act. My favorite melanurus wrasse. He snacks on inverts.. I even tried stuffing him with quality meaty foods. It's a habit apparently.

I already feed snails to my mantis tank... so a few extras aren't a big deal. I just can't keep a conch.. unfort.

I'm just glad I noticed it this morning or I could be having a nasty ammonia spike.
May have to get those little buggers out of there....would hate to have the same thing happen with any of my future corals and zoas

Many wrasse do indeed act like that and even though some of them are described as reef safe in the long run they are not as they can turn on your as you found out unfortunately ... and yes very good move to take anything that died or is dead or on its way to die out of the tank so you do not get a mini cycle going ... sorry to read the problem as that is a nice wrasse ... I love it blue and orange and some yellow striping ...
