Hey guys!! My name is Kevin, I haven’t had a tank in 10 years.. So far I have:
40 gallon beeeder
20 gallon DIY sump
Echo overflow PF-800
Bubble Magus Curve 5
Tunze ATO

My issues are, balancing the inflow with the out flow not sure how many GPH i need to run, I have 3 echo tubes for out flow running my pump at 50GPH I woke this morning my pump reservoir was almost empty, tank at the very top, almost overflowed..
And my Overflow container lost about 2 gallons..
I noticed one of my outflow tubes lost siphon which was weird.. About the bubble magnus, I need to raise it. It’s than likely..

Will share some pics!

Nice setup! I have a 40g breeder with a 20g tall sump. I use a Quiet One Pro 1200 (317gph) with a gyre powerhead on the same side as the overflow for increased flow. I had started with a bigger Jebao pump but the flow was way too strong so I got this one, knowing I could increase flow in the tank with more powerheads if needed. My overflow setup is different than yours though. I only have one 1 1/2” pipe down to the sump. Let’s ask #reefsquad for some help with your particular setup. They’re the best!!!

My outflow box houses a 1” and my pump going up is 3/4”
Thanks for the message.. this is an interesting balancing act..

I have a 55 and run the 300, can you run the overflow box with only one utube? And if you can I would crank down the return pump.

I can try.. I may play with that.
Worried about running at 30-30GPH
Does that matter?
Getting ready to get a couple wave makers next week..

Does the tubes always have that air pocket on top?

@Kplum

Kevin,

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef

You may need to go with a drill hole overflow so that it does all the work (surface skimming) and will not break your siphon. It will also keep all your piping on the backside of your reef. Get downflow valves to adjust and hold the overflows water height and make sure you buy one with the emergency downpipe option and some come with the correct drill bit provided.

I'd call Marine Depot or Bulk Reef Supply for the best drill on overflow regarding your setup.

I still like a 10 X's per hour rate,

When you get things stabled out, look into something like the Red Sea ReefWave-25 for additional inside tank flow, and the Reefbeat free app is flawless when paired up with a ReefWave.

Kevin,
That's the best fix that I can come up with for the long haul.

It didn’t this morning.. weird.. I am wondering if I have too much outflow, so the tubes develop air because they are no being used to full capacity?

I would try and restart the syphon on all the tubes so there are no air pockets. On these kind of hob overflow box’s you need to run at full speed. You will know when your not when you start getting air bubbles if that is the case increase flow.

If micro bubbles are getting sucked into the tubes, and the tubes are not flowing fast enough, the bubbles will get big enough to eventually break the siphon. I’d either bump up the return or pull a tube.

Perfect.. I am going to pull the small tube.. and restart the siphons.. we will see..

Thanks so much for the input..
I am leaving for a weekend soon and need to get this ironed out.. lol
