Thank you R2R community for being as awesome as you are. I check into another major forum from time to time for some information and sheesh! I now remember why I never got along over there. So much bashing and harsh criticism. Everybody's right and no fish is ever safe.

I have made a great home here at R2R. I always thought the mods over there were the problem as they were power hungry weirdos But I have come to realize that it was the actual people doing the posting that I didn't get along with.

Thank you R2R and to any new members.... Welcome to a safe and entertaining home here!

Great post! This may not be the biggest (yet) but it's the best.

+1000000000 BBoley I came across this site and never looked back!

I know exactly where that is, and now I'm here. I was there for a serious while. Finally I got completely fed up with one or two tagging almost every post I made and having some quip or correction from their opinion as if it was from a god. I visited here then broke ranks. I haven't been back. Here it seems you may get questions, but folk realize every tank and every reefer is different and has different likes and goals and opinions. That is what reefers are. None of us are always right, and none of us are always wrong. The fact is if you pick on fresh opinions you may miss out on a really good fresh idea that could solve some old problems. It is the diversity of methods and opinions that make a reef forum strong. I embrace all methods and opinions, they all have some good points. Here some folk may not agree with you and they may ask a question but they realize you have a right to your opinion and method of reef keeping and they respect that right. Or so it seems to me. This feeling encourages members to speak up with ideas and problems to share. I figure if one member shares a problem several more are having the same problem and are to shy to post it.

I totally agree... a fellow R2R'er said it best...

Dog Boy Dave:

"Glad to share my way of doing things. My way is different from most of what you read and I am not really interested in discussing hear-say with people who spend lots of time reading the experts. The proof is in the pudding. My way works as do other ways of managing systems. I believe that if your system doesnt work then you should find one that does and try to understand and replicate those processes that make that system work. There is no magic bullet."

I post things here with great hesitancy because of that previous forum and yet I get surprised by the support here! Very rarely do I get the tang police here (not just applied to tangs!).

I too have come to like this site very much. The people I have talked to are very nice and helpful. Haven't run into any ticked off people mad at the world here yet. I agree with most, there are many ways to keep a successful reef and many things that can help evolve the hobby. I believe we should all keep an open ear to those opinions that we at times take for granted as they may be the next big step within the hobby. I have been in and out of the reeding hobby since 2000 and have forgotten a lot through the years and a lot has changed. A LOT. I'm always open to new ideas and open to constructive criticism as long as its tasteful and without negligence. I hope this place stays around a while because I have a lot to re-learn and new skills to adapt to.

Thanks to Reef2Reef! I hope to enjoy this place for a long time to come!

So glad R2R is not about being better that the others, just the best that it can be! R2R all the way!! ;) I'm not biased or anything....

GRRRRRR... I was trolling that other forum for some info on replacing my ballasts on my cheap T5 fixture for a frag tank...

Some guy was asking the very same question I am looking for...

OP: "its gonna be for a standard 30g frag tank, i figure i'm gonna have to replace the odyssey ballast at some point hopefully later rather than sooner. i just wanna know my option's before purchasing"

Answers:

"
Don't quite see buying things twice though, really. Couple of normally driven 2 lamp retros from Hellolights.com will set you back a couple of bones, but the performance will be there. Just my thought on the subject."

"
To replace the ballast with a decent ballast you are looking at around 100.00 and another 100.00 on bulbs so they really are not worth the price in the end. Your better off either buying used or just spending the money on a decent T-5HO setup atleast that was my experience."

Really? it's not just that post either... It's everything. IME, nearly 80% of the posts are never directly answered. Opinions on what you should do and why you're wasting your time. BTW... the guy never got an answer... Just what not to do.

Thank you R2R!!!

Yeah I don't get it, I don't understand how a forum can be so full of arrogant idiots.

The biggest beef I had was no matter what fish someone wanted to add they got every reason why they couldn't have that fish in that tank. If something happened and they lost a fish or a coral they were an evil life form killer. If you stated an opinion to help someone, some of the members instantly stomp on your post and "correct" your post to suit their almighty opinion. I know for a fact that one of "those people" doesn't even have reef experience in many of the subjects they have defined hard set rules to. In this hobby there are few hard set rules. 'And you can't go around chewing out new posters if they decided to put a yellow tang in a smaller tank because it has been decreed it can only live in a tank of X size.

Yes, cheers to R2R, and if I break a forum social rule, by all means tell me. I want it to stay of this quality.

If someone comes on here and starts chewing out other members, they need to stop and friendly up, or leave. We do not need nor want that.

I like it here! ..... It feels warm and fuzzy!!! ;) ... or should that be "clear and salty".

I've been on a facebook liking binge for Marine and Reef oriented pages and just happened to like R2R's page from a suggested like.... Then R2R called out the FB lurkers for liking their page but not being on the forum.... I was soooo sick of how slow "the other place" was and now that I've read through this thread I realize why I've been a member there since 2003, but only have a total of 800 posts... I feel threatened!!! Now, I've been in the hobby long enough to realize that most of the moderators.... won't say who... are overbearing and full of themselves.... But now after 2 days of being on here more than working... I know where I belong and I'll kill that 800 posts in about a month... maybe 2. I'm glad I found R2R and I'll never go back!!

When hobbyists start dropping out of the hobby due to frustration and intimidation...
passiveness is no longer an appropriate response.
