Tuesday i removed all of my Apex probes and TEMP to soak them in citric acid. I forgot that my HEATER was still plugged in. No temp probe so heater kicked on. On wed night i went to feed fish and 2 anthias and 1 shrimp were dead. I was like whats in the heck is going on. Started the process of water change. I went to the tank to move a couple of frags. I almost started to cry:cry: when the water was hot 92 from 75. I looked at my chiller and it was off. I think that my three year old son seen the red switch and turned it off. That would have been the only thing to save me since my chiller is way over rated and could cool down my tank faster than it could heat it. So far besides the fish n shrimp i lost my 3x2 diesel chalice that was looking like a rainbow, vivids Rainbow delight, Vivid Valida, 2 colonies of sweet rainbow acans, Darth maul Priorites, Hot translucent pink goni, what the heck Myan sun favia 20+heads. A couple of other pieces i got from steve tyree. I still have some more gems that are looking ok, monster mash (JF) MM TD and CF, ARC wanted. SPS are Fuego Red Planet and so on you get the idea. Some have been growing for years and i just cant believe that this happend over a heater. I have read about heater nightmares but now i feel their pain. I am finding it to be kinda weird in how this has mentally affected me. I can compare it to one of my kids being hurt. I dont really know why, its just the way it is i guess. I think that i have it all under control ATM, but if you have any pointers i would really appreciate some positive input.

So sorry bro! I hate it when I do things like that and I cause loss.

I feel your pain bro.... I wanted to hang the gloves up the other day when I looked at my tank.. Tons of dead sps but what do you do... I decided to rip my tank apart and start over with what little I got left...

Can't let this bring down a fellow reefer/customer. Especially a fellow fisherman! Shoot me a pm and I'll send u some stuff to make u forget abbot it.

I know that it could be alot worse, i have to count my blessings. I know of 2x that you have expierenced loss, sorry about that.

I can tell you that Tierra Del Feugo seems to be holding its ground ATM. Thanks Mike, i think that i need to polish up my skills since i apparently have some cracks. This isnt sitting well with me right now. I will continue, I will just need to be a bit more thorough.

thats just terrible, Man to lose those chalices Id be pretty upset, You mentioned a deisel chalice, is that the New Jersey Diesel chalice? If so where did you get it? Was it as nice as its cracked up to be?

Keep any life support cords, swiches ect away from the kids period, too many things can go wrong with out a kid touching your equipment

I have an ACIII so this may not apply... What does your temp probe do to the temp reading when it is removed from the apex? Does it go to zero or skyrocket? Since the heater kicked in I am thinking it will do what mine does and go down to 0. In my programming I have an additional failsafe that will catch probe failures. Basically if the temp reads below 62 DO NOT turn on the heater as it is an out of range measurement. I also have one on the high side at 90 to tell the ACIII to not turn on the cooling as it is out of range as well. This protects against the situation you were in as it should have went way down to zero or at least left the acceptable ranges.

I know when a probe fails for my ACIII it skyrockets to like 135 degrees. If I had the cooler on without the out of range checks I would have crashed it twice...

Sorry to hear about your losses. Hopefully everything pulls through and recovers quickly.

That's to funny man.... I lost every fuego I ever bought seamed to be the most sensitive acro ever... I finally found a colony local an it survived... After my last tank crash that piece is still kicking!!! Haha.... It's one of those things I guess....

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. As cdness said, you can add in some programming to help stop something like this in the future. Let me know when you have things set up and I can help you out.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I am lucky enough to have not experienced a tank crash so far. And believe me, my fingers are crossed while I am writing this. The only bad experience I have had in this hobby is my current lighting system, a complete waste of money. I lost a few things due to my light but still glad it wasnt a tank crash. Good luck with the rebuilding of your setup. I wish you the best of luck.

I got it from the original vendor. I was about 3 months away from posting pictures since the post i have read werent very favorable towards it.
Mine receded to one eye when i got it. I had amzing growth and colors 4 (Blue, red, green and light yellow)of em started to blotch out on it about 6 weeks ago. now its just the skeleton.I hope that my wanted chalice will end up as nice as the diesel but as of now its red, black and greyish.

Sorry to hear about your loss. At times we get so preoccupied that one little mis step causes disaster in our reef tanks.

Luckily you still got some corals that survived.

Three weeks ago I had a 2 year old Ritteri anemone decide to walk off its rock and get caught in my MP60 PH. Been on the rock forever. Was away for a day and a half and came home to 90% of all my fish died. Never in 8 years in the hobby ever experienced something like that. The tank was on auto-polit for over a year and was cruising along nicely. Some of the fish were with me for years.

I had to literally pick myself off the ground, dust myself off and get back on the horse. Luckily my LFS was having a 50% sale and grab a bunch of nice fish and PIA has some great fish and GREAT pricing and got some nice tangs and wrasses from them too. So now I am back up and running and feeling a little better.

HTH and GL with tank..........
