I.D and Pulsing Xenia removal question

I bought this Pulsing Xenia at a fish store, didn’t realize there’s some zoanthids on it till I took it home. They’re zoanthids right, not paly’s? Is there anyway I can separate the two? Also, does anyone know what the name of these Zoas are? Thanks!

Palythoa has an elongated mouth, looks like a slit. To separate them you can try stainless dental picks. Good luck!

If you were close by me I would have given you all the pulsing Xenia you could want.

If you do attempt to separate them, I’d move the Xenia and leave the Zoas. Xenia is pretty tough and will likely handle the stress better than the Zoas.

I accidentally removed my xenia from a rock with the hose while I was doing a water change. I picked it up out of the bucket, super glued it to a new rock and put it in a low flow part of the sump for a day. Moved it back to the main display the next day and it looked fine. That was weeks ago it's doing great .. what I am trying to say is that I don't think you can kill xenia if you try.

Thank you everyone for your replies! If it is palythoa what would be the best way at handling it without it producing toxins? It kind of looks like the two corals merged together lol. Would the best bet be to take it out of the aquarium and attempt to remove the Xenia with tweezers?

Take it out of the aquarium. Use gloves and wear eye protection. Cut the xenia off of the plug and scrape everything that is left off of the plug with tweezers or a drugstore dental tool, etc. Anything at all that is left will grow back. The xenia will look like it's dead, but it's not. It's possible that you can glue it to something now, but it's difficult because it is very slimy. Otherwise, put it in the tank in a cup with rubble. I just set them in the gravel myself. After a while, it will stick to some rubble or gravel. Might take as short as a day or as long as a week. You can then glue it where ever you want it by gluing the rubble / gravel it has stuck to. Don't put it on the main rock. It will grow over the whole thing. Put it on an island.
