I've been fighting a thin-layered algae/cyano.

Po4 is high at .3
Nitrates under 10 for months.
Whites at 27% under hydra26hd's for 6 hrs a day peak

6ft 125g
2 xf250's on either end running OGC alternating 70% peak.
1 3600gph dual head cheaply mounted center pump with each jet facing the front corners opposite.

Dosed vibrant for 1 month, half doses, and then stopped only.to see it come back with a vengeance. I blow.off my.rocks with a Turkey baster once a week to stay on top of it.

Here is the green:

It's very thin, and simply blows off with ease, its comes apart like flaking sunburnt skin.

And now, I see this...
White string-like filaments spread across spots in the rock?

Help please.

Algae, cyano, dinos?

Mystery man?

Thanks in advance.

Gets those phosphates way way down. Do you know what is causing your phosphates to be so high?
Sorry I can't help with the ID but I'm sure the #reefsquad folks can help with that.

Green cyano. I had the same issue a while back. Turns out the food i was feeding was rich in vitamin c which is a carbon source which the bacteria feeds off of. Are you dosing carbon or can think of a potential carbon source?

Yea I know they have to come down. It's been running on a canister, hotb chaeto fuge, and a small hotb remora skimmer while I saved for the sump build which is the "rags2riches" build link in my sig. I grabbed some phosguard yesterday.
Just looking for an i.d..

I have heard that it may be that. But have yet to get a true id.
I feed lrs frenzy, and 2x rinsed brine and mysis cubes.
Saturday, I am draining the 125 for drilling. The fish are going into what will become by 30g QT. Rocks will go into brutes. And corals into my old 55g Long with 2 Fluval strips running their current schedule while the build is completed Sunday/Monday.

If the rocks are kept seperate... should I throw a few pumps, a heater and a large air stone into the rock containers and treat with chemiclean while I wait for the sump conversion to cure and test?

Sounds like a good plan this way only your rocks get treated.

Wouldnt be a bad idea :) just make sure to rinse very well and you'll likely have alot of die off so when you set it all back up itll likely cycle all over again

What if I run the rocks that are clear of it in the sump once it's running until the macroalgae order is place.

And just treat the rock that's bad. It's in the sand too tho... so idk

So half the rock stays seeded without any die off, and have a less dramatic sequence of spikes. More of a 'mini cycle?'
