I did a bad thing

Was trying to place my octospawn on a little rock island but realized the plug base (stalk clipped off) was too big to get it on how I wanted.

So I looked at it and thought I could pop it off the plug with my coral cutters (bone cutters). It didn't pop off. I broke it off at the base of the skeleton. I didn't know what to do and had no iodine, so I just glued it to the rock.

Today, polyps are out and look fine, but I know this might cause a steady decline for the octospawn.

Can they recover from that type of damage? I understand they can get infected. Would treating the tank with cipro prevent infection?

Cipro might be your best friend here. several theories on treating your whole tank. Ihave had success at about 4mg per gallon for a week. but read up on it, everyone seems to have different ideas on what level to use.

i think cipro breaksdown in light so you might get better milage on the cipro dose if you go dark a couple days. (again read up)

My rocks/sand are new from TBS. Will the cipro kill my diversity?

@fishguy242 I'm not sure what to look for when it comes to flesh. The bottom of the skeleton showed porousness (miniscule holes), but I did not see polyps or anything fleshy coming out. Just looked like a log cut down with a bad saw.

As long as there is a skeleton base- this is stony coral and will recover. If youre too close to flesh, that will be an issue

Sounds like you’re fine and there’s no need to treat the tank/coral. You can cut the branch of euphyllia to make frags, as long as you're not cutting into flesh then you’re okay
