I got mine from a lfs called easy-aquariums, but this site ships and sells them for around $500-$600
the owner is great being a couple hrs drive each way, I dont make it there as often as I would like. his corals are amazing! the best thing is shipping is cheaper than gas...

Quite the looker - for as much commentary as folks have been saying my offspring look "Better", a) it's all subjective and b) I wonder if the offspring that show broken pattern like this from Soren might actually wind up looking more like the "ideal" (the wild original) sooner? Will some of Soren's fish wind up looking like the 2008 Lightning (the first one, which really had "bolts" running down its side?)

You'll have to come back and post updates with pictures as the fish grow - I'll be very curious to see how it turns out. Good luck with it!

I like the fact that none look the same. it was hard to find one I "like" I mean they are all nice but I like the minimal pattern compared to tons of white allot have. I was looking for one that didnt have the "3 stripe patern"

I went to the lfs to meet lance for a chunk of star polyps, when I get there the owner says "I have the maroon you wanted coming in"I'm like what? he says didnt you ask for a maroon I said yup a lightning maroon
then he gave me a price that was hard to say no to (but still the most expensive fish I have ever owned! then he was trying to get me to like the black tang (guly little thing lol)

I have to much going on right now. 180g is finally gone, painting the new stand today. I drilled 2x 20L tanks for the clowns last night, by next week 3 of the 6 x 40b system will be up

my show tank is now a 40g cube lol. although I will have back up to around 300g of sw tanks running.
the new plan is to raise some of my clowns (I havent done that for a few years ) and have an acan and ric farm....

for clowns right now I have phantom x darwin (breeding), platinum x sa onyx (breeding), sa onyx bonded pair, and will be adding lightning maroon X gold stripe pair to the "farm"
next will be some bonnet or latz I may even try breeding warpaint gobies again, maybe I can keep s strain rotifers alive this time...

usually I dont look at price till im ready to buy I am poor but my thought is, if you have to ask how much you cant afford it...

LOL good advice, but I would like to keep my tank and not lose it in a divorce
a few people on another forum I belong to at know I like to rescue critters they can't tolerate anymore... I have received two fish and a handful of nems. Heck, I am not one to stray from freebies, but I don't know if I could drop more then $150 on a fish (until I get a bigger better tank and graduate college )

I lucked out... my fiance of 13 years that normally hates everything to do with my tanks except looking at the pretty things let me stop in at the lfs she actually even went inside and only because I told her they were going to be getting some of these fish
I just sold my 180g so I had to take my bellus and watanabei angels in for store credit so his price wasnt even an issue...

PLEASE out of respect for all of us trying to keep the PNG white stripe bloodline clean, I implore you to NOT make a Gold Stripe X Lightning hybrid. No GOOD can come of it. I've been adamant on this front for FOUR YEARS Now.

"Please do not make Gold Stripe X Lightning hybrids; these have the potential to destroy the efforts of conservation minded breeders. It is possible that the Gold Stripe Maroon is a distinct species of Premnas (in my opinion) and hybridization between species cannot be undone. The results of Gold Stripe X White Stripe Maroons are disappointing anyways, a mixture of the traits, which means only a pale yellow infusuion at best would occur. If you want to work with really unique Gold Stripe Maroon variations, please work with the Gold Flake Maroon Clownfish lines out of ORA."

If you're going to breed with the Lightning Genetics, get one of Soren's unrelated F1 PNG Morse Codes..or one of my future offspring releases. If you get a white stripe you are pretty much guaranteed a 50/50 offspring spread between whtie stripe (and possible morse codetypes) and the remaining 50% being Lightnings. There is NOTHING that hybridization can improve upon here. I've been very sarcastic, but with a bit of truth, saying that if you're really going to hybridize clownfish at all, please do the types of crosses that can't be mistaken for anything else. Eg. show me Lightning X Clarkii offspring. That I can respect. But not the Gold Stripe. Worst. Choice. Possible.

This is especially important considering that at this time, we cannot go back to PNG for more fish, and we do NOT want a muddied mutt line of Maroon Clownfish in captivity..it serves no conservation purpose to do so.

I agree with Matt, PNG bloodlines on Lightnings are pure. Any attempt at mixing in gold stripe would destroy the bloodlines. Just 1 offspring means LMC are no longer a pure PNG, and the hard work, concise breeding, and confidence in the stock is out the window.
