I recently switched over from using API master test kit when starting my tank to Salifert. What a difference in approach with the Alk, Ca, and Mg. After a few test though, really appreciate reading the syringe instead of color charts. I was slightly disappointed Salifert uses colors for Nitrate, but much easier to read than the API. Those oranges of the API Nitrate were brutal...

Anyway, all of the components to the kits made me feel like i was doing some serious science (or maybe drugs they way the syringe looks with the red plastic tip). Trying to get a baseline for my water parameters before I add corals. Hopefully in the next month or two.

Hey :) Try using the algae control kit from red sea. Much better imo for no3 and phos to see what your levels are. Then there's Hanna for phos...not sure about the nitrate side of those kits..

Watched the video... got 1/2 way through and canceled my PreOrder for Hannah Nitrate Tester.

Go through the hole rigamarole just to find out that you need to redo the whole rigamarole for either Low or Higher reading.

It honestly sounds like fun to play around with, but at that point we might as well just scrap the $50 for each Hanna checker and save up for a SenEye XD

Oh I love it all!!!! Takes me back to college When I’d use a microscope or titration at least once a week usually more. I can’t wait for the day my wife will let me drop $500-1000 on a high end microscope to play around with. Right now I’ll have to do with the cheap $20 kids one.

I so would not even know what to do with a microscope if I bought one. I think I am more in the realm of "mad scientist".
