I have just recently visited my LFS and they had a 40 gallon tank from a maker called AquaTop that comes with a tank, stand, overflow, pre-drilled exit and return areas, a sump, a skimmer, a heater, lights, a pump, and a return nozzle (and some more stuff)... all for $900. I think this is almost too good to be true. It looks to be in great condition; I saw it in person. Online I found this tank for much more than this price and something seems fishy to me... Anyone has experience with this brand? I am hoping that I just found the deal of a lifetime, and not a scam.

It seems like a fairly similar deal as SCA, they might provide a little bit lower quality skimmer and lights in exchange for the great budget price. You might check out SCA aquariums on amazon and see how it compares, I don't think SCA usually include a light though.

Do you know what skimmer, light and pumps are?

Skimmer is called the Xyclone, it is branded by the same company that makes the tank. Pump is a 740 gph pump; again by AquaTop. And although I am not completely sure, I believe the lights are the same; Aquatop branded.

Sca does have an echo tech package which comes with lights and a pump I believe

So if I'm not going for an all-out reef tank I should be good with what they give me to start?

I would do a little research first about the brand and see what people say, if the reviews are positive then I would say go for it!

Just remember what is cheap now can cost you in the end.. I don't know that brand, I would recommend looking at known named brand items as it will probably outlast the no names stud they get you on.

Also I don't think it is a good deal as you can get a 40 gal from petco when they have the 1 buck per gallon sale. any fish store can drill a tank for 20-40 bucks. I would probably consider a better thank like deep blue pro or something similar that is reef ready. Just remember skimmer and lights are 2 important factors if you want to do reef tank. Water chemistry is number 1. spend wisely on skimmer like reef octopus, pump, and wave makers, look at the gyre or Tunze wave pumps. You can get a lot for $900 bucks if you just look around.

Thats not a good deal sorry. I just bought a 225 gallon with stand for 200$. Now thats a good deal. Seen a 550 gallon tank for 400$ thats a good deal.

I don't recommend any aquatop product. It's the only brand The fish store close to me sells, I purchased a few pumps to replace some that failed...never again. Something went wrong and the scorched the outlets, and the cheap coating over the wires started to peel off. Some customers at the store had similar experiences with their heaters.

I got my RS Max c-250 for 800 on craigslist, brand new, never used. Put together but wasn't going to work weight wise in a mobile home. It had everything I neede.d

aquatop stuff sucks fyi

buy a tank, drill it, get a OF box, build your own sump, get a kessil build stand, and you prob be well under 900 and it will be better quality
