That is a shrimp, and it looks like it may have a parasite (the tan oval by the head). Any chance you could pull it out in a container of tank water both to try and ID it and to confirm if that's a parasite? If it is, you'll want to surgically remove it (I can share info on how to do that). Its kinda like a shrimp shape very small
I could probably get the shrimp outThat is a shrimp, and it looks like it may have a parasite (the tan oval by the head). My attempt was unsucsessful but should i be worried? That is a shrimp, and it looks like it may have a parasite (the tan oval by the head). From what I've heard, not particularly - the shrimp should be harmless; assuming it is a parasitic isopod, it could kill the shrimp, but I've heard it shouldn't spread to other shrimp in the tank (and it definitely wouldn't go spreading to critters that aren't shrimp). My attempt was unsucsessful but should i be worried?
DO you know what kind of shrimp it is?From what I've heard, not particularly - the shrimp should be harmless; assuming it is a parasitic isopod, it could kill the shrimp, but I've heard it shouldn't spread to other shrimp in the tank (and it definitely wouldn't go spreading to critters that aren't shrimp).
To make sure the shrimp is safe, you would want to try and catch it, then remove any parasites shortly before the shrimp molts (I'd suggest keeping the shrimp in a protected location like a breeder box with rocks it can hide in until after it molts; then I would move it back into the main tank).
Not offhand, no. My first thought would be a Urocaridella species, but I don't know for sure from the video.DO you know what kind of shrimp it is?
i got a little question how do you know all this stuff? thanksNot offhand, no. My first thought would be a Urocaridella species, but I don't know for sure from the video.
Haha, just a ton of reading of scholarly articles and forum threads, and a ton of browsing through marine life databases.i got a little question how do you know all this stuff? thanks
