I got me a 40

Getting back into the hobby after about a 15 year break. I DIY'd everything I could on my last tank. It worked well. I still have the 250 watt lamp. Loved that thing. But anyway...

I decided on a 40 breeder because

• Love the shape. Not too tall and just deep enough.
• Cheap. I paid $80 then local pet store had them for $55. Oh well, can't win em all.
• It fits very nicely where I plan on installing it.
• Did I mention it's cheap?

Building my own stand because the ones at the fish store are always too low to the ground for me. I went through many, many web sites looking for plans with dimensions and really found nothing so I decided to do the whole 2x4 overbuilt stand and wrap it in plywood. Here is my progress so far.

The skimmer showed up after two weeks. Not sure what was up with that. Marine depot kinda dropped the ball. But no big deal, I'm far from needing it yet.

42 inches. I tried 45 but although it was a good height to look into while standing, it just seemed too high. 42 seems good but we will see.

I still have to make the door but the finish is done enough for me. Going to need a forklift. This thing weighs a ton.

Thanks! Going to drill the tank for the overflow but not sure if I should put it in the middle or on one end.

Same boat here... still deciding on how I'm going to drill my 40. It probably doesn't matter as much in my case as the tank is a temporary tank to house the inhabitants of my 60g cube at a relatives house until I find a new place and move.

How many return line do you have? If it's 1, I suggest to put the overflow on the other end.

My overflow is in the middle and the foods that floated the longest after the return pump turned back on, is on the corner opposite of my return nozzle

One would be easier. Maybe put the return line on the left and the skimmer on the right. I want to avoid having a patch on the surface that never makes it into the skimmer.

Now I have 2, I just installed a UV and I ran that from my return manifold then flex hose to that other side with a separate nozzle
