Hello im new to saltwater tanks but ive had over 5 freshwater tanks since i was 6. Um first question. Ive been using the same wood stand from ikea to put my tanks on and i have my biggest tank yet which is a 20 gallon tank with over 30 pounds of LR and 20 pounds of LS, would you suggest a bigger stand or should my stand be ok? Next, if im mixing rock (LR and dry LR) can i add fish while the rock is still seeding after my cycle finishs or should i wait till the rock has seeded? Its about 13 pounds LR and the rest dry rock. Thanks for the help.

For the stand does it seem like its holding fine? Do you have a picture?

After your cycle is completely done which fresh start I'd say 6 weeks or so your dry rock should be seeded enough so I wouldn't see a problem with adding fish. But when you do add fish do it slow and make sure you do research on the fish before adding.

Other then that welcome to your new addiction :)

Yeah i will. I have read multiple sites that have said to add fish slowly and be patient. Still not sure what kind of fish i want though. Its gonna be a FOWLR tank. Just hope my stand is good. Ive had it for 8 years now and its held most of my tanks.

Agreed ↑
I would add, stay awau from fish that pick fir a little while. Like wrasses. That way the seeding will go on as long as possable.

My stand is a little wobbily when i move it and the hydrometer shakes when i walk by the tank.

For your reference 1 gallon of saltwater weighs approximately 8.5 pound. So 20 gallons=170lb. Then Live rock and the tank itself so total you are looking at approximate over 200 pound. If the stand is a MDF then add some support to it or preferably change it. As far fish concern you can add them once cycle is over but one at a time and slowly. Try to quarantine them before you add them to main display.

Ok so i should probably find a new stand or shelf.

If the stand is wobbly I would get a new one. If its thefloor making it jiggle your good.
Snails are fine. And most shrimp too. You want to avoid predators. Scavengers are fine. :-)

Yeah if that thing shakes when you walk then yes.

Not sure if its the floor or not. its upstairs on carpet, i mean i could be on the other side of my room and it doesnt move.
