I just got done scaping some what a jerk. I always threaten him with going back to the sea the hard way. He looks and taunts me.

I have one and have the same problem. Luckily my rocks are seated directly on the bottom of the tank, and my tank is 300 gallon so the problem is less pronounced.

I just have to be careful that some of the frags on the sand don't get buried.

I love my diamond goby though.

Dude, don't hate a player for playing the game... See if you can trade the little guy in for something else at your lfs. That way he/she'll go to someone who can appreciate it, and you can get something you can love and appreciate. No harm, no foul... Raymond

I've learned to deal with my goby's games. Just don't put corals where they can get buried and make sure Rockwork is secure. Every once in a while I'll tick him off by fixing his mess and watching him go to work again

@Shaddow_wolf169 The diamond goby and turbo snails both kinda look out of place in that little tank anyway. (And you know both of them can get a lot bigger, right? The Turbo's will starve to death before they get there, however.)

I agree with @Raymond Gathright – you should at least consider trading them all in for something better for you and the tank.

I have a gold head sand sifting goby and yeah, he makes a mess, and I have to watch the corals on the sand bed--usually put them on a big piece of rubble rock, and I can't put my sun corals on the sand bed but I love watching. Esp. if a hermit gets too close to his burrow. He picks it up, carries to the other side of tank and spits the offender out. So funny. Saw him pick up a shell and take it to decorate the outside of his burrow. Love the guy and put up with his messes and turkey baste off sand where I don't want it. He's buddies with my kole
tang. I think the tang follows him to see if he stirs up any goodies

Goby's do make a mess, but most of them have such a special personality! really cool that he decorates and plays with hermit...

I'm on the same boat everyday I have to clean off my wwc gobstopper and purple monster Zoa cause he keeps burying them. The bad think is I can't move my Zoa they are attached to a plate of Tonga shelf on the sand. And the goby live under the rock.

We recently were told to get a smaller version of Goby exactly for this.(black and white striped with a long featherlike fin) because of cyano in the sandbed. Anyone familiar? BTW it is a miniature or dwarf. Tiny. I am more than willing to meet his needs and tolerate a little pia to keep the tank healthy.

@JonCollegeReefer OMG that is just too funny! I thought you could only put one goby in your tank. I picked up a yellow watchman and put him in my display refugium but would rather have him in my main tank (not that I could get him out now) Very entertaining, to the other fish as well!

I recently picked up a nocturn goby from divers den. It's a small white goby thats supposed to max out at 3". He's dug a nice burrow to live in and sifts sand. He's so small he can only manage very small amounts of sand, maybe 5-6 grains at a time. Doesn't make a mess and is really cool to watch. Keep an eye out for these, as I've only seen it come up for sale once. JP

That is the funniest reef keeping video I've ever seen. Is the clown the referee? There will be no kicking, head butts, or hitting below the belt. Now, LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!

I loved my diamond goby! Had him for years till he decided he wanted to attempt life as a terrestrial animal...

He was so messy! I let him do his thing for about two weeks and the dusting became a non-issue once he had is tunnels established. Installed a couple of filter socks and blew all the micro grains of sand off my rocks/corals and G2G.

Now i have a 1 foot+ long engineet goby. He is a monster! Grabs whole algea waffers and hoards them in his cave.
