I hate skimmers

Title says it all. New system, new Reef Octupus 152-S Classic. No chemicals were added or anything. Doesn’t matter what water level I put this thing at, I’ve built a stand etc. no matter where I have the gate value at. I can’t get the bubbles to stop overflowing.

Have I mentioned I hate skimmers. Someone give me a reason to return/sell this and turn this sump section into a refugium or get the Tunze Algae reactor. God I hate skimmers.

Ok rant over LOL. Please help??? Much love and respect R2R community.

I kinda figured, at the same time I've watched videos of brand new systems doing the same thing I am and not overflowing, were able to adjust the water level/gate value to get the bubbles to stay in the neck.

I think it depends on the skimmer, my deltec went straight in a new system and never once overflowed, took some adjusting though first off.
Ive never had a reef octo skimmer so have no experience with them but the majority of overflows are due to skimmer break in on new systems

Yea makes sense. Was just hoping it was me being stupid and overlooking something and having the great collective experience of R2R tell me "hey you did this wrong, fix this and it will stop" Lol. Course that would be to easy and this hobby isn't easy Thanks for your answers good lady!

New system... did you happen to use epoxy to put together your rockwork? Epoxy will typically make a skimmer go nuts and foam over.

Is the water level in the sump OK for your skimmer? I have a different type of technology for my skimmer, but for my skimmer to work properly, the sump water level would need to be below the outlet pipe after the gate valve. Again, not sure if this applies in your case.

I’ve tried every water level. From 4.5” to 9”. Doesn’t make the slightest difference

Then I would lower the water level some and give it some time and see what happens. Good luck.

Hang in there! All new skimmers go crazy like that. It should calm down in a couple days.

Nah I appreciate it, but I’m going to do something I’ve been considering for awhile and I’m going to buck the grain and go skimmerless and run a fuge

I am pretty sure the problem is that nylon filter sock they let a ton of micro bubble through and don't really trap any waste. I would use the felt type filter socks 100-200 micron. I would also to check the air intake to make sure it's not clogged.
