I think I need to stop ordering coral online. It’s just too much anxiety. The last few shipments I’ve gotten have had delays but ended up getting delivered on-time (at least on the day they were supposed to), but I think my shipment that’s supposed to come today is unlikely to make today. Calling UPS is just futile, they’re never helpful. The package is one town over, 20 minutes away but they won’t let me pick it up. It’s 9am, the flight was an hour late, and so it’s delayed until tomorrow? How is does that even make sense. It’s around 30° out, they will undoubtedly die if not delivered today. It’s just too frustrating, it’s too much anxiety.

Anyway, I just needed to vent. And I need a record of how much I hate this so next time I think ordering corals in December will be okay, I can reference this post and wait until spring.

Definitely feel your pain. I live in a milder climate, but 100% my orders are based on outside temperature, and transit temps. I really really really avoid ordering in the summer. It sux but temp. is a factor. :(

I figure the anxiety isn't worth the price.

Yeah unfortunately this is the worst time of year to ship anything, and the covid situation has made this year the worst that I can remember. I used to be able to guarantee next-day delivery for my customers all over the US, now I can't even be sure that UPS or FedEx even picks their order up the day they place it. Could be worse, you could be waiting on shipping containers from China lol I don't even want to think about the amount of $$ we have tied up on flippin boats right now...

I know all deliveries are slow now and it is worrisome but it's about the only way I can get much in Prescott, Arizona. AFS ( Aquarium Fish Sales) sent me some healthy fish that arrived late by Fedex but well packed and healthy. Yesterday as the storm came in, I was waiting for a Black Friday coral ( holy grail micro) from TCK Corals that arrived late after the snow storm but well packed as well. I even cleared my walkway and driveway and street to make sure my coral was delivered by the Fedex Santa. Funny these delivery guys get to know you when you order fish and corals and most are curious about the hobby. I'm thinking about putting a cooler outside for any future deliveries just in case I miss it so its not on a cold porch or hot porch as I moved from San Diego, California till I catch the delivery was made.

Snow in AZ and it's over 50 degrees here in NH hahaha

Yeah, same here, thats why I avoid summer and winter months to buy corals/fish. And had to sit out the black friday deals. I only buy stuff that is within driving distance so I can pick them up. This greatly limits the mortality rate.

One option is to have the package held at the hub for pickup......That's if you have that option available to you.

I just had to cancel an order form austin aqua farms due to shipping issues. It freaking sucks. I hope your corals make it !

Nothing is worse than amazon. I've had several issues lately and I'm almost certain the driver is just tossing my stuff on the side of the road.
Must be your area, Amazon is the most reliable delivery service here! Amazon>UPS>FedEx>carrier pigeons>USPS

No that was Fedex;) Haha, Im curious what happens to that guy as they were charging him for a crime but he was already working at another delivery company...maybe Amazon.

I hate [insert delivery company]. Honestly it really just varies region by region and ordering stuff right now doesnt help. You're asking to ship live coral while everyone is trying to get christmas presents.
It shouldn't matter what is being delivered, they offer a service they can't provide.

This is the worst time of year to have livestock delivered. You have nasty weather. The sheer volume of packages is ridiculous. The poor drivers are overwhelmed. I saw corals and fish online that I liked, but I resisted the temptation.
