NEVER put lube on the gasket, read my tips thread. The rubber actually vulcanizes over time and the lube inhibits this.
The gasket goes on the flange side of the bulkhead and the bulkhead can be installed either direction, in some cases with room limitations the flange goes on the outside and the nut on the inside but the gasket still goes against the flange so could be on the outside.
