I have a idea after driving back from Greg's today I remembered about a car club I was in years ago and they had a phone book with members phone no. In it and if you were driving cross country and broke down you could call a member that was close to you would come and help if you were not willing to and wanted help from the someone that was in the book had to buy the book so what I'm suggesting is we make a list of members that are willing to help other members but if you are not willing to help then you will have to buy the list if your name is on the list you will have to help the person that calls you with in a reasonable amount of time if you can't that is ok but just know that there may be a rating system that will let someone know if you are reliable or not

I don't think it is either this way you get guaranteed help and not post here and hope you get help

For those who have the time, I'm sure this will work well. However, I believe it may end up discouraging people from participating at all if they're not able to help others with their tanks, even if they're able to help with the club in other ways.

sounds complicated (with a buy book and rating system) ... is this about helping someone with a broken car or broken tank?

If someone in the club wanted Jason and my cell number that is no problem ... in case they are broken down around Smith county we would be help in a minute. Problem is cell phone range is poor in the back county so unless we were in the house and not outside playing in the county (kayaking, fishing, atving, shotting guns, horseback riding, jogging, ect) we might be considered 'unreliable'. See - complicated. And would we be punished for having a complicated lifestyle - hope not.

so I have been working on a way to do this and have started but wanted to get the idea out there first. im thinking a map with user names on it with pipoints of general locations to where they live (wont have addresses). with permission each person, I can add a phone number to each pinpoint on the map or if someone doesn't want on there, they don't have to be. this will allow someone to look at the map and either PM or call someone that is close to them incase of emergencies or general questions.

open to ideas and didn't want to get to far with it if the idea is stupid... let me know

Sounds good to me Jay. Always helps to know who is close to you in case of emergencies or possibly vacations.

that's true... and thanks for your feedback. I sent the map that I have to one member and waiting for feedback before I sticky it in the private forum. unfortunately I don't have everyones screen name attached to there address so I don't have everyone on the map yep.

or I know that someone has moved and I don't have new information

Im new to this forum but this thread sparked a thought. What if instead of phone numbers of people to help you out, you made a list of people numbers who would be willing show you their tank while that person was in/passing through your town. Since all of us on here have a passion for this hobby everything always looks better in person! what do you think?

I like this idea, there has been a time when I needed about 50g of RO for an emergency water change, but only had the ability to make and store around 10g a day. I have a friend who is close by that has helped me on short notice a couple times and I've been able to do the same for him.

I like the map idea, Jay. Like said it gives you an idea of who is in or around your area for help if needed. It would also make it easier to do like a tank tour or a showing of the tanks in our middle tn locations. Also, it will help aide in meeting locations.

Well i will be first off my address is 1104 lewis drive goodlettsville tn 37072, phone where i can be reached most of the time is 615-433-3663

I can help to create the KML map, which you can open it in google earth. simply move the cursor over the location, and you will have some contact info for the people in the area
for the privacy reason, I think the location should be mapped to ZIP level. The file is then only accessible through the MTRC website, with member only access.

let me know if I can be assist with this idea
