I have aiptasia issues.

Be very careful with them, I picked some up on a group buy a few months back and they pretty much died off overnight, same with 75% of the other guys who purchased them.

Why can't anything ever be easy? XP

If it was easy we probably wouldn't be in this hobby! LOL.

Berghia's arent cheap either.. Plus they can't tolerate high flow from what I have seen. Whichever direction you choose. I wish you good luck. Its a great feeling when you realize you have eradicated them things though

The Aipasta-x works great. I had a similar problem keeping still so as not to alert them. I kept my hand in the tank with the syringe ready then squirted it at them and the hole they hid in. I combined this with 2 peppermint shrimp. The shrimp eliminated the aiptasia pretty much overnight. Be wary to get lysamata peppermint shrimp, not to be confused with the rhinecanthurs(?) camel shrimp sometimes sold as peppermint.

Boil some RO water. Use a dosing syringe with boiling water in it and target the aptasia with it. It will melt away.
I did this two weeks ago and it worked for me.
It does not cost anything either. A pharmacy will give you a dosing syringe for free.

My friend here had aptasia really bad, big ones, little ones, thousands of them in a 90 gallon tank. He tried everything online, from kalk paste, to boiling water, to aptasia x and nothing got rid of them. He ordered a matted file fish about a month ago and he texted me this past weekend that the aptasia are completely gone. It may not be the prettiest fish on the planet but it does get rid of aptasia. It won't eat them all over night but give it a little time to get comfortable and build up an appetite and it will eventually get them all.

What? I think it's just the cutest little fish ever! My wife thought it was ugly at first, but it's grown on her and she's named it Cami.

i got a store full of aiptasia in my 120g. here's what I've tried and my comments on success/failure... and not to step on Eianna's toes, but some questions too:
my tank is in-wall so some places are tough to get to. also, i'm still growing out my acros (this is a 100% acro build i'm 5 months into), so just live rock and a pretty heavy fish stock at this point.

1) Kalk Paste: i mix the paste to a heavy consistency and dose with a syringe mated to a long tube wand and a needle applicator. This does a pretty good job, it is a routine weekly/bi-weekly effort. the advantage of the kalk paste is you don't have to be terribly precise and you can 'blanket the area'. not a final fix but a decent means of control. somewhat of a PITA and over time kalk aint cheap.

2) Aiptaser: i've posted on this before. cool product (in theory) but I blew through three of them due to failed power supply, faulty construction on the metal tips etc. this was an alternative to mixing kalk but after my 3rd unit to fail and $125 price point I opted to stop buying them. the manufacturer/distributer did replace them under warranty, but again, it never worked well. they'd fizzle then multiply

3) 3W 495nm Laser: this is a $350 item. you can stay dry. need to be careful and safe with its use. I am moderately happy with this but it is not a complete fix. due to my setup certain buggers are tough to get and you need a fairly 'direct line of site' to be effective with the laser. this is not a final fix either...i've seen some come back and frankly the 'snap crackly pop' that you see in certain videos only happens on the smallest of aiptasia. the larger ones (1.5") are much more resilient. on a scale of 1:5, 5 being extremely pleased, i'll give it a 4. again, not a final fix

4) Copper Band: tough fish, tried one and she didn't make it, i've got high flow and she was not happy. power blue and powder brown were not the friendliest but i think collection practices and finicky eating is a detriment. if you can find one in a LFS that has been eating for 2 weeks, buy it. pretty fish and i'm hoping to have one long term.

5) I have not yet tried Peppermint shrimp, lettuce nudi, or file fish. and my questions... here, what are the contaminant risks of nudi death? peppermint- they will crush my acro's right? file fish -- my lfs is experimenting with one to see if she'll eat aiptasia...if so i'll get her.

Thanks and again sorry to jump on your post bro.

Currently using Aiptasia-X. Working great. Unfortunately it was too late, as I found one swallowing one of my PJ Cardinals! I went on an Aiptasia rampage after that!

Lettuce nudis are vegetarians. They don't eat aiptasia. Berghia nudis do, though.

I have quite frankly had enough of aiptasia-x. I've gotten much better at it but the darned things are still multiplying.

My peppermint probably expired when I moved. Haven't seen him for quite a while (though I'm aware they can hide out for AGES) and never saw him even approach an aiptasia. I'm aware I needed more of them, but I'm done with might work/might not fixes. I also feed too heavily, I think, for a peppermint to be interested in hunting.

I'm getting the berghia first chance I get. >.<

It's sis, and I never really mind personally, but you'll get more and better in-depth responses starting your own thread. :)

i have tried a lot of the above mentioned and will be taking all my rock out and just starting over ..will re seed with my other tanks live rock that has no aiptasia . wanted to try the nudi but not sure how long it will take for 2 of them to wipe out the colonies of aiptasia i have in the numbers of 150 and large enough to swallow a small shrimp lol...good luck

I get mistaken for a dude a lot too!

Minimum number is generally four. ;)
Be warned that replacing your rockwork may not be enough. You almost certainly have gametes floating in the water...which means new aiptasia.

A little update on the Matted Filefish. Had him for three months now. No aiptasia left in the tank now. If you've ever battled aiptasia before you know how I feel. That fish is worth its weight in gold. Of course I still watch him closely, but nothing has been damaged at all. I have quite a few featherdusters that I really like, so --. They are like chameleons and change color according to their surroundings. Mine was very small when I purchased it; it has grown quite a bit already. It gets right in with the other fish and eats during feeding time. No fish has showed any aggression towards it and vice versa. I am extremely pleased with him. Yes, I know it's a male because the males have little spikes on their sides. My wife has named it Cami. I'd recommend getting a small one.

Sorry sis. Best of luck in the war. I'm fighting it too. Crust sharing my experience with the arsenal I have used. Carry on
