My tank is almost 2yrs old in feb 75g/40breeder sump. Aqua mars lights
My issues are these: i always have hair algae. I had everything managed for a long time. But since i upgraded to a bigger stand for a bigger sump i have had these issues...Nitrates are always above 80ppm. Phosphates stay high.
Parameters:
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrites 0ppm
Nitrates 80ppm
Phosphates .50ppm
Calcium 480ppm
Magnesium 1460ppm
Kh 10.8ppm
Temp 79°
Salinity 1.024

Since always ive had phosphates after rodi 4tds this is with brand new all inside. 6stage rodi. I have 2 puffers so i know they are dirty fish but they are 10yrs old. My tank is against the wall where a window is but only gets 1hr of direct sunlight a morning. My tank is crystal clear but algae is everywhere. My cuc cant keep up. I have a uv sanitizer. I have chaeto but it seems to have stopped growing. My skimmer will not stop overflowing reef octopus 110int. I need advice i just ordered nopox will be here in a week. I have taken every rock out and cleaned them. I have done everything ive been told. Ive ran gfo. Ive vodka dosed. Hydrogen peroxide dosed.

Silly question I am sure, but have you tested your RO/DI water on its own?

Yeah i tested it. Definitely have phosphates in it i used a freshwater kit and my salt kit. I have 400tds before rodi. But after i have 4td even with brand new sediment filters. Resin and all. Its like a epic fail each water change. My rodi water will turn green with in 2 days in the brute trash can

If i go months without a water change my algae will disappear. But once i do water changes it grows non stop and i think the lights are growing it even more. Ive been dping water change after water change to get my skimmer running right but it keeps flooding over even when i think i have it right

I’m feeling the 4 tds water is an issue. Also if cheato won’t grow try adding a few drops of iron (Fe), and a drop of iodine. Also raising mag with the old Kent marine magnesium now made by Brightwell called magnesion may help kill some of it off. Also a couple of urchins will help keep it knocked down after you scrub the rocks.

I will definitely try it. My tank is 2yrs old and i have zero coraline algae.

THANK YOU

Are you on well water? If so you may consider running the ro only (no di resin) and runnning an air stone in it for 48 hours, then running this water through your di resin. It will degass the water of co2 which can kill your di resin quickly. Just a thought and may help you get that zero tds.

Yeah im on well water. We have a water softener but my landlord said we can not tap in after the softener... maybe i can get one of her employees to come to do it since hes family. Hopefully that will help majorly. Do you think that would help??

This I don’t know the answer to. The guys @Bulk Reef Supply may have some insight. They know stuff.

Puffers are giant messy fish IME. I see your source water TDS, but I don’t see what you are feeding.
Do you siphon the substrate when you change water?
Disagreeing with the above, I do not think your main issue is your RO water.
