Long story short after 13 years in the same house landlord wants it back. My wife found another house she is in love with but the new landlords tell me i can have my tank but only down in the basement with no heat down there. I guess my question is can i heat a 75 gallon tank with at 30 gal sump with enough efficiency to keep my tank or should i just chalk it up and sell off everything. I was up all night last night trying to figure how to do this
Thanks for any help in advance

I would imagine evaporation would be through the roof. Could you possibly sell the new landlord on keeping the tank in the main house provided you had an adequate renters insurance policy to cover any issue the tank may present. I'm sure that is likely why he doesnt want it in the main house, just worried about water damage.

Can you add some space heaters to the basement? Is it possible to add a vent down there?

Space heaters could potentially do more damage than an aquarium disaster... Maybe that would help sway the landlord...

Heaters will work fine, no problem. You will burn energy but no more than running metal Halide like we did in the past.

Hopefully basement is nice enough to enjoy your tank. But two heaters and maybe a small portable for the space should be adequate.

If the furnace is in the basement, there may be some sporadic vents in the ductwork that’s feeding the upstairs, which would allow you to divert some heat to the basement.

Personally I wouldn’t leave a space heater running unattended. In addition to easily blowing fuses, could become a hazard.

i am gonna check everything out before i move it and see my options. didnt get to really check anything when i was there the first time.will have to weigh the options but it will kill me to have to take it down' thanks for all the ideas i appreciate it
