For my 90 gallon tank that I will be filling can I mix it for the 1st time inside the tank and then add my crushed coral afterwards? My rocks will already be in place too. Either that or I will have to fill it over A few days while my RODI catches up

Only going to have a 20 gallon brute can to mix with otherwise

I would add the substrate then fill the tank with RODI water then mix salt in the tank where it your initial set up. just remember to adjust your salt/water ratio to adjust for the displacement of the rocks and sand otherwise your salinity may be to high and you will have to remove some water to bring it back down. Move slow and bring up your salinity over a day or 2 and you should be fine?

I'd mix in the brute can in batches and add to the tank already mixed. While between batches, you can put a powerhead in the tank to keep the water moving.

When i dump salt into my brute can to mix, there is some salt that settles at the bottom of the can until i vigorously mix it up. I wouldn't want that settling into my sand in the tank! Plus, with the rocks in place, it's going to be hard to stir the water around.

I have always filled and mixed in tank then added sand, but you can do it either way.

The one thing to keep in mind is if you are using live sand you want to be sure you adding it to the tank after the saltwater.

I don’t see an issue as long as it’s getting dissolved. My brother just got a tank and gonna add salt directly to the tank tomorrow

You can mix in the tank initially or outside. I filled mine by adding a series of batches over time. I MUCH prefer this approach. Filling with RODI and mixing seems perverse. But I very much doubt that doing it that way is a moral failing.

As long as you aren't counting on live rock/ sand for your cycle fill it with di water and mix it in the tank. If you need the bacteria from the substrate mix in batches as stated above.

Just going to get a 44 gallon brute can. Filling it twice will be a little more water than I need to only have to do it twice. Rather take my time and let the salt mix well either way. No sense in making it this far and not maintaining some patience

This way you will get a good mix and be able to control the salinity easily.

If you find that it takes too long or is too much work, you can buy the saltwater
