I Just got $1K as a 15year old

I think it's fine to spend part of the money on something you want, but whatever you choose (especially if it's aquarium-related), start by making a budget. I spend about $500/yr on salt alone for a 120g. You can blow $500 in this hobby overnight. And you can find yourself having to choose between taking proper care of the living things you're responsible for and dipping in to that other $500 you though you were saving.

Also think about what you might want in the near future. The $500 you saved may be earmarked as an early start on retirement or a down payment on a home. But at 15 (assuming your in the US), you'll be able to drive next year. Car. Gas. Car repairs and maintenance. Going out with friends, now that you can more easily. Consider if you'll be happier spending the second $500 now or if you might want it for a shorter term savings.

That said, a mated pair of CB swallowtail angels would be totally awesome.
Well Im in Canada, but yeah we can start driving next year. Dont worry about gas and hanging out with friends, I dont exactly do that XD. Im the "study hard get into Ivy League school then get good job and have money to buy big reef tank" kinda guy. lol. But yes i hear what your saying , totally true. I always keep at least an extra hundred on me for emergency salt or meds if i need it. PLus my parents will sometimes help if its dire at times.

I’d say buy a reasonably priced coral, then with the leftover cash, buy something you can earn some extra cash with, like a chainsaw, or a weed whacker. Use some of the skills you learned working for your grandparents to make some extra cash on the weekends. Save that up, then invest.
I already have a job making some good $$$, and acc me and my dad were going to start a mulching company to sell mulch. That some serious money.

Id wait for a good sale and stretch your dollar. Black Friday sales WILL happen and is in 7 weeks

I personally At your age would buy my FIRST CAR

Having a job, even if you make good money, is one thing, but creating a business that makes in a day what you make at your current job in a week is even better. The mulching business sounds promising, I’d say invest your extra cash towards that.
I’d support your future business, as mulch is one of the key ingredients for my business, but I’m all the way down in the Los Angeles area

I have no advice about what to buy but I want to say it’s great to see a young person putting in a lot of hard and getting rewarded. Congratulations. Hard workers win in this world and you’ve just proven that. And the fact that you’re investing half is even better. Keep working hard. Keep investing and soon you’ll be worrying about how to spend $10k or $100k. Enjoy whatever you buy.

No basically all my checks from work go into my account ----> right into stock. Fossil fuels. Dont exactly agree with the method but it brings me money and other people heat. :)

Yeah 401k roth ira stuff is automatic and kinda boring but very responsible. Definitely keep doing that.

I'm talking about downloading Robinhood. It's free trades and you can put in as little as a dollar.

Thx means a lot. One thing ive learned about life is that if you try to party and have all the fun when youre young, you wont have any time for that when youre older cuz youll always be working to make a living. But if you save the fun fot when youre older, put in the word as a kid/teen, then as an adult youll have a better job and youll be able to have more pleasure in life with less stress.

i think you are on right track!! but don't forget to be a teenager too..only there once ;) you got this:cool:

I run a Landscaping business in the Greater Los Angeles area. Mulch, Compost, and organic fertilizers are my go to for healthy landscapes.
it takes time to create a Rich and healthy soil, but with the addition of Bat Guano,Worm and fish castings , Mycorrhiza fungi, and Absolutely zero Glyphosate you can really get things going.

I'm not naturally a very social person either, but I would advise balance in almost everything. If hanging out with friends doesn't come naturally, perhaps set a goal to work on that (I did). Some pocket money could come in handy there.

If you want an awesome reef, you need money and therefore a job or a business. Sometimes you'll get a good job because of that degree, sometimes because of experience. And sometimes it's because of who you know or who you can make friends with. (I expect the later is particularly important if you're running your own business.) One never knows which avenue will pan out, so don't neglect any of them.
