I Just got $1K as a 15year old

Oh trust me im very social, and ultra persuasive, i just dont see a point in hangin out with friends when i see them in school llol. I could be studying or training haha. but yeah i see what you mean still

I was the same way in 8th grade until I hit high school. Had some great times with my friends after that. Maybe a little too much fun sometimes lol.
You’re still young so you’ve got lots of time to figure stuff out but you sound like a smart guy. :)

Best of luck with your investments ! Hope it performs like a Microsoft stock and nets you a pile of $$ !
I don't know if your situation would allow it, but you could use the $500 toward upgrading to a larger tank; say a nice 75 gallon..... For about $900ish you could get the tank, stand, sump, lighting, and filtration equipment.

Im gonna begin by saying that I am 15years old, or else what im about to say wont really make too much sense lol.
Four years ago, my grandparents decided they wanted to buy land, with a house and farm that were old, dirty and broken down, and fix them up so they could then sell the property for a lot more. We worked constantly on it: sweepign dust and dragging hay out of the barn, chopping down MASSIVE trees and then splitting the wood and stacking it, scraping off wallpaper in the house, moving things around, general cleanup stuff, etc. So my grandparents said that me (who at the time was 11), my little sister and older brother were each going to get one percent of the profit on a house that would sell for at least $1 million CAD. Just a few weeks ago, we finished cleaning up the whole property, and then a few days ago the property was sold. Its crazy that that took us 4 whole years to do !! So anyways, Im about to head out to go to work( i work at a burger joint making fries and cleaning dishes), when my grandma calls my siblings and I over. She gives us a beautiful speech, and then she hands each of us $1,000 in cash( mine came in $20 bills, my brothers in $100s, sisters in $50s). So after thanking her many times and hugs were exchanged, I went off to work. I spent the whole shift wondering what I would do with my money? Buy a new tank? Spend a whole lot on corals? New fish maybe? One things for sure is im putting $500 in the bank and investing it (thank goodness my dad is smart and taught me about investing.)
SO I posted this thread to maybe get some ideas on what I could do with the other half that im not investing.
Srry i know its been a long thread, but you guys who read it are real ones :cool:
Thanks a lot #reefsquad and may the force be with you always.

Do you already have a tank? If so - why not keep the money to maintain the tank you have? Good plan - as far as saving half. Its hard to answer your question - without knowing what you already have.

Yeah I have a tank, it was a new quarantine hobby that I started, and now its an addiction. Check out my build thread it will give you a better idea of the tank. (20g)

I wouldn't spend it on a tank....or not a lot of it. It sounds like you have a good job and future plans, college and/or family business. Where do you plan to be in 5 years? In school, working local.....selling off the reef tank that you tossed a lot of money on?

I'd bank it or invest it. A house and/or vehicle are both big expenses that are nice to have extra cash for.

I had a trust fund of around $8,000 that my grandmother had for me when I turned 18. It mostly went to a vehicle that got me to several career building jobs and payed that expensive car insurance for a couple of years.

Lesson I am still learning is to sit on it rather than go with the gut to spend it on xyz. Once that rush/emotion wears off you'll make a better decision.

Saving/investing can be a good thing and lead to more cash to burn later! :D

Most recently apple stocks split making them relatively cheap (like 100ish a share!) go buy those! I bought 4 before the split and now I have 16! I have also doubled my money!

I would just hang on to what your not gonna invest and when you see that coral you must have then buy it!

Defitetly! Ive been thinking Apple because its always good stock, and its relatively cheap right now. I want Tesla stock: it has crazy drops and then raises again by like 50%. You just gotta know when to sell

OH ok - glad you have a tank - I have had tanks since I was 12 or so - I would save my pennies, etc - and get stuff - Invest the whole thing - Save your money from your job and use that for your hobby. In 40 years - conservatively - your money will be worth a lot more - what will the 'pump' or 'tank' or 'coral' be worth... Probably 0. :).... But - im glad you at least plan to save 1/2.

I would do the same thing with the money, take half now and save half. I think you could setup a nice nano tank. By the way I’m 14

Im deciding to only spend like $100 or less. I really just want one new fish, which will prolly be a damsel which is only like $12, or a special damsel is like $20. Im going to keep the rest of the $100 tho for emergency spending money, then invest half of it. Probably in energy companies or Apple.

I know this has been said before but seriously if its extra money take alittle time to read whats a goodish (higher then normal risk but has a high chance of succeeding)investment invest in the stock market spread it out alittle or better yet do as I do and invest half into the stock market and invest half into crypto currency(not bitcoin) buy 100 dollars in a few things of each like gmo general moly(low price right now but if(when) the mines open will be a huge gain) and crypto like dogecoin (also cheap but set to become a main stream way to pay for things which will raise price signifigantly) those are examples and if you invest 100 in 10 things likly to pay out at chances are at least 1 will making you more money then the 1000 total you invested example I invested a few hundred into bitcoin long ago and is now worth alot (no figures for privacy sake sry) sounds odd but you should already be planning to retire

Energy company's are unusualy a sound investment do your homework and alot of them pay dividends so money back in your pocket or to reinvest

Another risky investment but likly to pay off in the energy game is nuclear fuel and solar and wind by the time your my age we will be out of or close to out of fossil fuels making them a premium
