I just want a 15min delay on for a socket/switch

Maybe someone has come up with a simple solution to my dilemma. I might as well ask here.

Basically, I want the socket to turn on an item 15min after it gets power. So, I want my skimmer to start up only after power is applied to the socket and after 15minutes has elapsed. I know this sounds like something that would be simple to program.. But in GHL.. it's far from simple near as I can see.

I don't want twenty programmable logic things assigned to 1 socket so that in every feed mode and maintenance mode or anytime the socket shuts off the skimmer is delayed in starting. Near as I can tell the Blackout delay won't function like this as the powerbar and Profilux never had a true power outage. Am I wrong on this?

I know Reef Octopus makes a delay socket but it's set for 5min. If I can't find a better solution I might go that route. I'm also looking into Smart sockets to add to the plug on my Skimmer.

The blackout delay will not apply power to the socket until the delay is completed no exception. If you want your skimmer not to turn on for 15 minutes regardless after a power outage set it to 15 minutes. Mine above will for sure not turn on till 10 minutes after power is restored even though I have advance program logic the blackout comes first.

My return pump is set to 0, my chiller to 15 minutes and so forth. This allows my pump to get everything flowing first and then then everything on. My heaters are 5 minutes.
 
Does that work with Maintenance and feed modes? those are the areas I'm having the most problems. I Have a punch of Programmable logic just to do this on 1 of the maintenance modes and 1 feed mode.

I haven't tried it yet so bare with me. But my assumption is that in Maintenance and feed modes only the socket is turned off. So then the powerbar and Profilux never sense a "Blackout" and this doesn't work.
 
Are you using maintained mode with power cut?

it is blackout first then power cut. I can confirm that again but did test that when I set up my power cut mode.

I am 99% sure blackout overrides first even if you hit maintannce mode or feed mode and hit it again the blackout will not turn off until the time is completed. I will run another test :)

It's simple, I want to have my Skimmer turn on 15 min after feed, maintenance or power outage. Anytime power goes off on the skimmer socket, I want the skimmer to not turn on for 15 minutes to allow the tank to totally stabilize then it can come on.

Then blackout 15 mins will work for you. In the event of a power outage your skimmer will not turn on for 15 mins :) Exactly what I have done for mine which is 10 mins and works great. I have had a few power outages generator kicks on and 10 mins later the skimmer kicks on.

And this works in Feed and Maintenance modes too?

Yeah, the issue being that, as you say, a feed pause isn't a power outage. It's more like turning switches off and on again. So the Profilux assumes that if you turn them back on you want them on. I take it you want (for example) a feed pause to switch your pumps off for five minutes and your skimmer off for twenty.

So yeah, likely would take some programming. I get that is irritating for what seems like it should be straightforward. But at least it's a one time thing.

Too early for me to think through the actual solution though ...

Yea, this is a part of the GHL Programming I absolutely hate. Having to create 2 PL for every maint mode and feed pause. There needs to be a better and simpler solution.
 
I have not dove into the ghl logic so no help there. But these are cheap 25$ on delay or off. its an option. good luck

I was looking at this. But $45 for something that should be in my GHL.. And it's only a 5min delay.

 
I was just reading rev's tread on feeding. I kill my return when feeding the corals but luckily my skimmer doesn't overflow,
that's another reason I like my skimmer. Float shutoff
Ya there should be logic for that.
 
I don't think there is a simple way, you need to make multiple PL steps and assign them to the socket.

I agree, it would be nice if you could just assign one delay to anytime the socket turns back on.

Here's the logic I use:

G5 is for my skimmer. I use G4 for my ATO.

Maintenance 1 is for when I do a water change and Maintenance 2 is for when I work on the rear chambers in my AIO.

I only use one feed mode (Filter 1).

I also have a power cut (Maintenance 3) assigned to the skimmer and ATO sockets.

I just got my skimmer configured but it did take a couple of pl steps to complete. I have a float switch that will shut it off, I put it on a feed mode and it has a delay turning back on.

I run ozone through my skimmer and I did use part of those pl steps to have the ozone generator off every time the skimmer is off plus the ozone generator is turned off with an ORP value.
 
I have been using the Octopus delay timer for about three years, works well. Mine is more like seven minutes rather than five if that helps.
