I keep losing Ocellaris :(

Also if tje male is not doing its job the female will kill it
Been doing a bit of research on behaviour but didnt pick up on any male role at an early age until they actually start to mate. I guess I'm after the pairing, peace and harmony for now.

I'd appreciate it if you could elaborate

Also aggression between clowns is common they will fight eachoth to see who becomes the female and who becomes the male and sex change can happen in the first year my old pair started breeding at 1 year and 2 months old had them at 3 months old
Yes, that's what I assumed the agression, chasing around and fin bites were about but didnt expect it to kill it. Or at least that's what I've been advised despite finding it stuck to the power head water intake. I was told they r strong swimmers and would not been sucked against the power head.

Any suggestions on way forward? Ie, wait then get a smaller 1 or get a larger one that can handle the agression.

I guess it cant be a coincidence that both clowns died of liver or general health when theres an aggressive partner to be. They were both very healthy, active and fearce eaters, then it just happened over night

Again I would suggest you to rid of the bully and buy a already paired set or take a gamble and try again with 2 new fish.

I really do appreciate the advice, just getting different opinions, the first fish in the tank is always special, so it's hard to just trade it in like a used car. I'm not even sure if the LFS would even accept.

I would start all over with paired clowns. When I first added my 2 Gladiators I had my LFS order them from ORA and the shipping labels said they were paired. They have been inseparable and living happily together ever since. ;Happy

Take current clown out put in holding tank add new clown wait a few days then re add currect clown this will disrupt it territorial behavior and should help decrease aggression to the new commer

If the female thinks for any reason the male is not a good dad or going to be a good dad she will kill it aka this starts as soon as they decide who is female and who is male then the nale should start patrolling and keeping others away and make it safe for her to lay eggs then once this happens if he is not carring for the eggs she will kill him kinda like my wife hehe

Nitrate is at 25, I added a fuge with chaeto and a skimmer over the weekend. Currently in ugly stage and trying to manage nutrient levels and bring them down.
I would not add any more fish or really anything at all untill you get it down to 5 or less then I woukd try again

If you drank nothing but water with high levels like in your tank you would also die from liver toxicity which is what I expect is happening to the new fish when the liver goes in fish it happens very fast one day they are fine the next dead

Thanks, that's really informative as I would have done the opposite due to my lack of experience.
