What is it ???
I am a newbie doing a lot of research here at R2R, recently I moved to a new house and decided to tear down my 3-year-old 30G aquarium and saved some live rocks I got from Petco years ago to start over again in the new house. We have seen worms (no ID) coming out at night and even lost fishes that just vanished and saw a worm that apparently killed and eat a Damsel. So I decided to try to clean the rocks and placed them in a 5G bucket with salt water and an air stone. No luck, I was able to pull just one nasty long worm, but wait !!! one night I forgot the bucket outside and the temperature dropped to 45-50 degrees, next morning I found the bucket with about 9 dead worms.
I accidentally killed the worms by lowering the temperature. So maybe now we don’t have to use acid, bleach or cook the rocks.
Who knows, maybe all we need is some ice water.

Looks like a large Bristle worm. Oh, Welcome to R2R!

Welocme! That worm doesn't look like a killer but I could be wrong.

Hi an welcome.

Common bristleworms. They were probably just cleaning up the remains of the fish, typically they good guys and have probably been living in your tank for awhile. Killing them is really a loss in my opinion.

WARNING: Never boil liverock! Very dangerous.

Just leave it out in the sun for a few days then start cycling again if someone needs to reuse any rock that may have "pests".

I do not believe the common bristle worm has the anatomical structures that would enable them to take down a fish. I had this worm for over 5 years and it was over 3 ft long. As long as the fish did not go after the worm it was all good. Now if the fish messes with the worm as my female clown did the worm can defend itself. This clown recovered fully in 3 days.

I've had a lot of fish who wore a bristle beard for a day or two. These common ones are not predators. They don't have an interest and are not equipped to take down a healthy fish.
