I Know It's A Clarkii, but Which One?

I got a nice pair of Clarkii clowns to round out my stocking. They were just labeled Clarkii at the LFS. I've searched the forum and the depths of the interwebz but I can't tell which one it is. Here's a few pics. I was thinking Allardii but not sure

I think your question is confusing. A. clarkii is a species. A. allardi is a different species.

There are roughly 25-28 species of clownfish (depending on who is counting) that are broken down into 6 complexes. One of these complexes is the Clarkii complex. One of the species with the Clarkii complex is the Amphiprion clarkii. The pearl eye Clarkii is a unique morph of the A. clarkii species.

They don't look liek Clarkii. They looks to be Sebae clowns.
Most people even at Sri Lankan LFS mislabel all of them as Clarkii.

It is 100% obviously not a sebae clown. They look like A. clarkii. The distinction is the tail. The white band at the base of the lightly colored tail is a clarkii trait. A. Alardii has a darker band at the base of the tail and the sebae clowns have a deeper yellow tail.

So what I'm getting out of this is that they are Amphiprion Clarkii with the recessive pearl eye trait. Uh! I never imagined I would say something like that! 6 months ago I was like "cool it's Nemo" lol.

It looks a lot more sebae than Clarkki from pics. Clarkii have 3 stripes while the Sebae have 2 like the once in picture. Also the sebae clowns have their end stripe elongating towards the top fin from the body. These also have that.
Only thing that they ahev going to be close to a clarkii is the bit taller body.

From the picturers and after having seen 100s of both species in local fish stores I'm quite sure they looks like Sebae clowns that Clarkii.
Maybe if OP can get a good picture with less blue colour I can say for 100%.

Yep those once do have the 3rd band. For the once in picture though can't see a third stripe. A better picture shure would make it easier as said .

Agree. A. clarkii - see third band at base of tail. Pearl eye variety.

Dark brown to black, two wide white body bars, the second slanting backward on the upper flank, extending to end of dorsal fin. Orange to yellow tail. To five inches in length. Most often fishes sold under this name in the pet-fish trade are actually Clark's Clownfish. Found all along the northern Indian Ocean. Below in N. Sulawesi, with eggs and a Haddoni carpet anemone, and a hobbyist photo sent in for ID."

I turned off all the blues on my leds and put a white flashlight on them and thus is the best I could do. Fast little things! And camera shy to boot!
