I know this going to be controversial but.

I asked you, which is more important, the major five or trace

That's probably the same video I saw but couldn't complete because it was longer than my attention span. Not arguing it's being valid or not other than reminds me of how others dosed Kalk once that became known. Not specific to carbonate before lights on to raise the pH and get the process started but just in general where the old days assumed requirements were dosed once. At least by those I spoke with and what I attempted early on before dismantling my tank.

You know way better than me to the efficacy of that they speak but if they are having success then couldn't it be plausible? Regardless, I'm dosing AFR which means no early alkalinity boost but perhaps I can just dose that day's contents at first light. Don't know and why I say I'll test it. Having a dosing pump restricted to one event per day likely less fallible then turning something on for continuous increments my thinking. Less wear and tear might result in longer life to the extent failure can be avoided. No experience with dosing pumps so just me being overly cautious as I'm one for a pound of prevention.

I’m not really extending much opinion on bolus dosing, just the misguided mechanism discussion behind it.

Understood. My comments were purely about one shot dosing and the potential benefits for those wanting to simplify things. Wasn't giving any credence to the mechanics of using their products although did seem plausible until I read your responses in the thread you attached. Hadn't seen that first.

You bring up sound support and make me wonder how credible are these manufacturers and if inadvertently ingenuous because they lack the background or purposely selling snake oil. One like myself not inclined to verse thyself in the chemistry can be easily misguided although their approach much more involved then I'm seeking. Sometimes being simple minded about complex processes more beneficial in the end. Some of us know enough to hurt ourselves being my point. Being overly cautious. Doubt I'd let that happen were I suddenly well versed.

Im not convinced there is any benefit and I see potential detriments. The wild card is what exactly is single bold dosing being compared to, and what exactly is in the Fauna Marin product.

In my situation, I'd be dosing AFR or CarboCalcium which don't have the pH affect of carbonate of hydroxide. In my limited knowledge it seems safe. Yes or no to how I'm proposing?

especially considering the delayed processing with Formate.

It’s certainly reasonable to dose AFR or carbocalcium once a day.

Are there actual studies that the ICP reported upper limit levels of trace are of concern or just guidelines based on NSW? I’m planning on being more concerned about lower limits vs squirting drops from 20 independent bottles and Tropic Marin has a new line based on major trace element families where only certain elements are tested and test dosed based on that. Less bottles yet I’m thinking A&K might solves most of it.
I don't know - but - it would seem to me that if they are flagging something - the should know what they are doing - if not - there would be little to gain from reporting - I think many are based on NSW - and I agree with your philosophy

Call me skeptical but you’d think that if they had imperial scientific based backed proof of these ranges per element then they’d publish it or we’d find it somewhere. Not one knowing where to look. I’d be looking at the ICP companies to provide that proof vs just telling me on a report I need X of this because my levels are too low and y of that to reduce others or the fall back solution being a WC. They however somehow know exactly how much of their product one needs to buy to then solve what their test shows.

I’m going to wing it and just assume NSW as my base but not sweat being slightly above their reported critical levels unless life shows me they are stressed although no guarantee that stress actually related to that I’m being told to correct.

More art than science and lots of upsells to navigate. Sounding cynical but then I’ve learned about vibrant, pH buffers claiming no alkalinity increase, kalk with magnesium and Bolus that only works with one’s product where all the science disputes their claims. Seems like swimming upstream in shark infested waters :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

I think skepticism is what is required. Vendor conflict of interest is a real concern when deciding on how to deal with information supplied by them. Information from a vendor can range from that of a snake oil salesman’s pitch to just a stretch of the truth. What vendor supplies proof to support claims about the products they sell?

Some salts now come with ICP results. Hopefully was from the same batch but who knows. Truth in advertising or marketing something I was taught to question in sixth grade. Kind of like spinning the bottle back then. Are you getting the pretty girl :thinking-face:

Don't you think this is a gimmick? As you said - hopefully was from the same batch. And - the 'questioning' started long before that i.e. 'caveat emptor':).

Don't know what to think anymore. Once there was a claim of Kalk + mag which was dissolved with science from a company we are supposed to trust based supposedly on science. One needs a PHD in chemistry to traverse these waters. Simpler a day when we fed flakes and changed bowls of goldfish water :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
