It has been difficult for me to locate Sea Apples and I received one that was not in top shape. After two months in tank, he had positioned himself in a cave next to a one year resident Flame Scallop and had begun feeding. He is mad this morning becaus3bI moved him wher3 I wanted to see him. In the past, this has not worked well as both apples & scallops will move to their desire. It is best to leave them to decide where they want to be.

Five years ago, I maintained a gorgeous Sea Apple for several years in 75G Jaubert Plenum which was 20 years mature.

My newest tank at 11 months.

Love it! Sea Apples are so pretty. :)

They are nice as are Sea Cucumbers, however if the get stressed or die, the release their insides which can cause a total tank wipeout.

On and off, I have kept apples for ten years. I have had a large sea apple die in my 75G display. While the tank took it in stride, when I removed the stinking mass, I must admit, the smell was very offensive.

How often did you feed your sea Apple? They say it’s best to turn off all your pumps for about 10 to 15 minutes. My only concern is turning off your pumps won’t hurt your clam from the PH dropping?

@Tyrone

Welcome to the hobby. I should warn you, I am an addicted reefer of 47 years.

Your thoughts on turning off pumps are in referece to feeding the tank. I don’t do that.

Instead of batch feeding the tank with pumps off. I choose to use natural systems to process both inorganic & organic nutrients using complex food webs to produce live food of differrent sizes to feed filter feeders.

So, to answer your question as to how often does Sea Apple get feed each day. In my 25 year old display, the food webs in the substrate feed the system continually. When I remember, I lightly stir sandbed which causes bacteria & bacteria plankton to go waterborne as food for hungry mouths.

Thank you Subsea. So instead of batch feeding you just stir your sand bed 1 or 2 a day? I currently have two sea apples in my system right now. I also was doing some research and they a good way to tell that sea Apple is doing well is if it pooping. Is this true?

I never looked for the poop. I judge health of sea apple when I see it feeding and after which, growing.
