I got some MochaVincis on Saturday. I love them. The little one is very active and the bigger one is a bit of a grump but they seem to get along so far.

Beautiful fish! Did you get them as a pair or did they pair quickly in your tank?

How can u tell if they have become a true pair?

Great question! Often any two clownfish that get along are referred to as a pair; once they lay eggs they are referred to as a mated pair. Unfortunately some fish sellers through two clowns together and call them a pair. The good news is that two juvenile clowns can transition into a female and male.

I blindly ordered two individual clowns (one large and one small) so I was very worried but also hopeful that things would go well. As far as I know they were not paired up beforehand. I may have gotten lucky with these.

Yea but how likely is it that a pair will even lay eggs? Has anyone ever had this happen?
Yes. If you are interested in breeding clownfish, please realize that eggs are just the beginning. Providing tiny food for the tiny mouths, providing high quality water and tank space for grow out, and then figuring out what to do with all of the new clowns are all part of the challenge. This forum has a lot of great info. Additionally I started with Wilkerson’s book on breeding clownfish and still refer to it from time to time. Good luck - it is a neat journey!

That’s great! It is not rare by any means, however it is not guaranteed so it is nice when it works the way we want it to!
