I love plates!

I don’t have any plates ….seems like I’m slacking on the job.

I have had some acans, favias, and even a symphyllia coral come back from complete skeletal tissue recession…..
Good news! I'm nursing a symphyllia right now too. It's had receded so badly that I had given up on it. But if it makes it, I'll have a stunner.

Sorry in advance guys, but when I saw the title of this thread, I had to laugh!

I live in the Rochester New York area where we have a local culinary delicacy known as a "Garbage Plate", or simply just a "Plate", and ooooooooh man, do I love Plates lol!

Typically, a platter of mac salad and french fries or home fries, topped with two cheeseburgers or hot dogs, and absolutely smothered in a meat-based hot sauce, with chopped raw onions and mustard. Traditionally served with a roll or bread and butter.

Please know, there is ABSOLUTELY NO ketchup on a traditional Rochester Plate, and anyone who puts ketchup on a Plate should be taken out back and beaten repeatedly with a wet noodle.

A Plate is best enjoyed in your early 20's at about 3:30 am, after a long night of debauchery at the local bars :-)

I mean, I LOOOOOOOOOVE Plates lol!!

Some of those look pretty dang good! Do any have scrapple? I don’t know what that is but I’ve heard people up north mention it.

Heliofungia holy moly! That’s likely the prettiest heliofungia I have ever seen! How long have you had it?

I no longer have it (moved and starting over) but had it for several years. When I bought it, it had shorter fat tentacles like a typical one and no one wanted it at the frag swap because it wasn’t a gold torch lol. I guess something about the tank made it get really long.

Not so, my friend! Scraple, which is a spiced pork "product" akin to SPAM (which is SPiced hAM (in a can!)), is a Southern thing, not typically found in New York but I have and would eat it lol!

EDIT: I looked it up, and indeed Scrapple comes from about the Pennsylvania area, so south of me for sure, but definitely not the "South". My bad!

And yes, these plates are goooooood lol!

Again, sorry to interrupt here guys, I just had to laugh and share our local "Plates" lol!

I'll show myself out now......

What about Taylor ham ?

What’s the longest time you kept plate?
I have never had success with plate longer than a year. So I swore them off and haven’t tried for the last decade.

I came across a friendly reefer with an “insanity plate” baby. I was buying other coral and he wanted a good price for it…considering what these actually sell for.

I liked it a lot but my history told me don’t get it. So I passed. Well few months later I was buying again and couldn’t get that plate out of my head and he said he has another baby even smaller and less money so I bought it…sight unseen.

A .25-.5” disk showed up loose in a bag of water and I thought. What the heck. This is the smallest coral I’ve ever bought. It’s going to make it about 1 day before it’s blown upside down and in the sand dead overnight.

I examined, and it did appear healthy and I figure I would give it my best attempt. I superglued to a frag plug so I could put in a rack. I target fed flake food I crumbled by hand because it’s mouth was too small to accept brine. And. It ate. And grew. And as it for larger I switched to nano pellets. And now it can eat pretty much anything I feed in my tank.

So mine had receded to 3 heads left or I guess three places where there was a mouth. I cut away all the dead skeleton. And remounted to 3 separate plugs

All three have started growing tissue back on the skeleton so woohoo! I don’t have any photos of when it was at its worst
