I love zoa gardens! How do you do it??

I'm saying zoas are constantly growing spreading and dying in various patches.

I've not see or known a patch of zoas that are still a colony beyond 24mos.

I truly believe it's in their nature to grow. Spread. And melt away

Not my experiance at all. I buy that individual polyps die and are replaced. Zoe colonies appear to be immortal. Or at least last 5+ years. I'm not that old.

For me, Acros match your description better. Temporary corals that are pretty while they last.

In my last tank zoas stay from day 1 to take down 4 years later. Maybe that kind of garden requires high maintenance to keep it looking sharp, but I don't think is that hard if zoas selection is made carefully.

I agree to some extent on that. I bought this 3 years ago.

I have 2 colonies of the red watermelons on 2 different rocks. And the green are growni g up the rear filter box. They do occasionally get a few heads that sort of melt away for no known reason, then re grow over the spot. All bar about 3 polyps of the green died on the original rock so I saved what i could and just glued it to the rear box.

I kind of have a little bit of this going on, nowhere near as nice as the picture but its also what i aim for. IMO it works better if you start with 3+inch colonies, leave space for some room to grow(so they dont mix and grow ontop of each other, can't be stopped 100 percent though) I have fire and ice with radio active dragon eyes not mixed on the right hand side on the shelf, this is just a random video, id take another more recent/better one if the lights were on. You can see in the middle i have larger holes in the rock ready for more frags,with space ready to grow out so they don't merge, its slower with frags but at least ill get to see the spread, and even pick ones out you dont want mixing easier. IMO spacing is the key.
