Mastering salinity can be tricky at first. You will get there after you make a few batches. I recommend getting a 2nd tool to measure salinity so you can always cross reference two tests if you need.
Every once in a while I break out the Tropic Marin hydrometer just to make sure my primary test is correct. Since it's impossible to to be incorrect, the TM hydrometer can come in handy despite being a pain to use.
