I put my hand in the tank while cleaning the glass and went out. Came back about 2 hours later and a third of my corals are curled up and look horrible. I don't have any salt right now for a water change, so I put in a bunch of carbon. The only thing that might have happened (I am totally guessing) is that I washed my hands with soap and didn't give them a really good rinse to get everything off of them before putting my hand in the water. If that's what happened have I basically killed them?

I notice that my corals will do this sometimes too even when I wear gloves and my theory on this is that my hand/arm is blocking and redirecting the flow off my pump . The one coral which is I notice always retreats is a toadstool in the middle of the tank . Just a theory that I have ....... Could be this ? Maybe your corals don't enjoy the increased or decreased flow on them from your arm in the tank ?

Well, my cat is soaking wet. Do you thing that could have anything to do with it?

Seriously, they have miraculously recovered. I guess it will remain a mystery. But now I want to know. Has anyone other than uncle99 ever done that? I always wonder what would happen if I just washed them as usual and get soap residue in there. In fact, I'm a little paranoid about it.

by not having a fishcam aimed at the tank, you have now missed youtube gold and cat videos sell

bigtime

I recommend stage it.

Wet Cat...hmmm...can't rule that out as a suspect...whyyy is the cat wet?

Glad they are all good. I alwsys make sure to rinse my hands well after I wash them.

I think a majority of us are paranoid vs borderline OCD when it comes to our tanks. It shows however, that you care and are paying attention.

I'm on it! I actually don't have a cat, but my neighbor's brings dead birds to my door, so he deserves whatever comes his way.

Wet cat... what wet cat?

I can't do the wet cat jokes, just can't clean them up enough.
Purrrfect!!!

Seriously, my leather reacts to EVERYTHING. Mag scraper comes by, leather closes up; remove clear cover and lighting pattern changes rapidly, leather closes up; reattach suction cup on something inside the tank, leather closes up. But it will sit there and let that darn hermit crab take a nap right in the middle and never blink a polyp. Go figure!!!???

A few hours and all should pan out. Happens many times
