Hey everybody. I have a yellow tang and recently its right fin just grew a cyst kind of looking thing on it. From my past experience with fresh water ich. It doesnt seem like it but it could be, Im not sure. I also cant get a good picture shot. Can someone here diagnose for me?

How big is the spot? Is the fish scratching on the rock? Is he breathing fast? Really need more info to help you :)

If you are not sure that you don't have it (100% qt every single thing that goes into your tank), then the chances are, you have it.

Im going to have to wait til i get home to see. But i havnt seen it rub off the rocks. Well just say i do. Is it a good idea to put the ick attack into the tank? How should i fix this problem before it gets out of hand.

First and foremost, don't guess and start throwing chems into the tank. Find out what it is, then go from there.
If its one the fin I'd say its Lymphosyts. If its look like its a tiny cotton ball, I'd then say malnutrition.

*If* you have Ich, you definitely don't want to treat your entire tank. You would place the fish in a QT tank and treat there. I agree with Reefing Madness though. Don't just treat without knowing for sure what it is your treating for. You should be able to google "white spots on tang" and find some images for ID.

The white thing is on his fin not the body. I hope this helps.

It looks like ick getting ready to devastate your tank. I got a Pakistan butterfly that was too big for the qt so I put him right in the big tank. he had a spot just like that on his top fin which I had no idea was a spot I thought it was just a damaged fin. it went away after a week which is when I thought the fin healed, but then all of a sudden a few days later my fish all had white spots and I ended up treating the whole tank, which luckily worked out well and everyone is good now. I'd get another opinion before doing anything i'm no expert, just telling you my experience. I used cupramine (don't know if that's spelled correctly) with the Pakistan, a sailfin tang, and a pearlscale butterfly using the recommended .5 level for 5 weeks and everyone cleared up nicely.

Im not convinced. Id just leave em alone for the time being.

Back up. You have a tang? If I remember right, you have a 30 gallon tank. I could be wrong... but I thought sure you said your tank is only 30 gallons. A tang should be in a MUCH larger tank size. Not trying to discourage you or anything, but you really need to take the Tang back to the store. I'm sorry, but there's no way he will survive in a small 30 gallon aquarium. They really are beautiful fish and I wish I could have one too, but like you, I have a 30g tank. But they need to be kept in tanks 75 or more.
