I may have made a mistake..

I bought a bristle tooth tang, and had it in QT for almost 4 weeks. Used prazipro and copper.

He showed no signs of ich, eating everything in sight and very active, so I felt he was OK to go into the DT. So I put him in.

This morning, I see a couple of spots of possible ich on his fins, not his body. Of course, when he was clear the entire time in QT. He is way too fast and I cannot catch him without draining and destroying the tank.

He's swimming, exploring and chasing the other fish, showing no signs of discomfort. He is also snagging algae from the rocks and walls and ate some frozen food- so I know his appetite is good. I put in seaweed enhanced with garlic that I saw him graze at (of course, the snails finished it off within an hour).

Should I not worry so much and let him settle in the DT and proceed with ich management protocol? If the other fish gets ich, then I know I will have to do the fallow.

Oh, how fast, since introduction, can other fish show signs of ich?

Did you test copper? If not at correct dosage it can mask symptoms and not be effective.

yep, copper was at .5 after 2 doses (48 hours apart).

I can try when I get home from work. Just got to work now.

He doesn't look bad, a few specks on his pectoral fins.. I did not see it anywhere else on him.

If your fish are happy and eating good I wouldn't worry to much.
Of course it's always a sleeping giant.
I had a tank maybe 12 years ago and it's had Ick but never a fish died of it.
Always fed well, good paras on the water.
Btw, it could also be just some sand stuck on him.
Monitor other fish closely.

Ich often starts on the fins. IME copper tends to drop slowly and requires frequent adjustments. I also tend to leave them in for 6 weeks as general practice because I can't test as much as I would like and I've learned how much I need to dose every few days or week.

I've been feeding my fish frozen food (mixed of mysis, brine, bloodworm and something else I can't remember). I add several drops of Vita-chem and Oyster Feast to the mix. Shake it up in the squirt bottle and feed.

Should I add some garlic or anything else to the mix?

if no signs of ich showed during qt and now has ich as soon as it was transferred to main tank then your main tank has been infected with ich even before the new adition. It may not show to the other fish in display for they may have developed immunity to ich

bleh. I will have to keep an eye on the tank and all the fish. So annoying!

Just remember that there are more tanks setup with ich than without.
I saw a spot a month ago in my black tang but since I left for Utah I don't know now.
My maintenance guy didn't see anything he said.

It does intice finicky fish to eat that is true
But garlic has been known to cause internal problems to fish when used long term
Ur fish is eating u said u no longer need garlic

Yea search lrs on here he did an article on it.
Also if it is ich and u go in guns a blazing ur going to stress the fish out more. If he is eating and acting fine u have time it won't kill him in a day
make a plan if u want an ich free tank before u just react.
Catch him at night or set up a trap something that won't stress him out

^^ Very true! You've gotten a lot of good advice here. If the spots are gone in a few hours, then it was probably sand. Ick usually spends several days on the fish before dropping off.

I tend to agree with this as well. Of course there are two possibilities with this. 1. QT procedure was compromised allowing the ick lifecycle to continue in QT but at a level that never showed outwardly. OR 2. Ick is in your display and he immediately got it when he was introduced.

i'm sorry for the troubles here, but as @Diesel said..... ick management is something that people are able to do for a good while before seeing trouble. Sleeping monster indeed though.

I had a tomini tang that would get a couple spots every few months. He ate and acted just fine. Never had a problem with it. Just watch it closely to make sure no other fish are showing signs.

i had ich for some time now but there was only a toby and some wrasse in it. I introduced 2 fire goby in it as those guyz was not presenting any sign of ich and i was wondering if a fire goby can get ich.

Yes, all fish can either get ich and or show no signs and harbor it, this is true with any disease.

Did you go fallow for the time mentioned above?

Just an update since I came home- the tang only has one visible spot on his pectoral fin. Possibly was sand if not ich he's overcoming.
