Hey all.

I did the unthinkable. I set up my new biocube, did Dr Tim’s, and bought two clowns a few weeks later.

I have never had a fish tank before, and have research what I thought was enough to start.

So I dropped the water from the LFS and the fish into the tank.. I know, I know.. and again I know “now” ...

I am setting up a QT tank now and letting it cycle for the fish. If I take the fish out and let them live in the QT tank for 72 days. Will this undo what I have done? I only know about ich edit: they don’t have it yet, I am saying I only know about this disease.

It’s always a good idea to QT before adding fish but if there’s nothing wrong with them at this time then you should be good

You are overreacting
Am I? From what I read, once it’s in it’s in. I just don’t want to have a ton of livestock then realize, everything needs to be removed.

No matter how hard you try to keep bad things out somehow something always gets in or goes wrong. Clowns are very hardy. Mine survived ich and velvet. What's done is done just qt your next batch of fish

Relax, we can help. Breathe....

So first off, your biocube is probably fine to house the fish. No issues there. However, you are thinking of the possible disease. I get it.

Did you get the clowns from a dealer, specialized breeder, or from a lfs that had them separate from any wild fish? If so, no problem they should be healthy. Leave them in there.

If not, you probably want to qt. Follow some of the great write ups on qting fish. Seach on this site.

Everything will be fine.

Ok thanks, could I have added something that hurts coral?

QT is important-but this is nothing to lose your purse over. Just observe and move forward slowly. If fish end up needing treatment, you will need to set up another tank perhaps for that- but likely you will have no issues.

No fish disease usually affects corals. I say usually, because who really knows what may come up. Currently none to worry about much. Really definitive I know. I must be a lawyer.

If your worried about copper or other meds in lfs water- put in some polyfilter and carbon- likely the dilution will be so low no issue regardless

I tired my best to keep bubble algae out of my tank but somehow it still found it’s way in.. you just gotta roll with the punches in this hobby

Lol thanks everyone that’s telling me to calm down, it’s helping and I really appreciate it.

No they were not separated, and it was a local fish store.

If their already in the new tank why don’t you just wait and see how they get on, they might have nothing wrong and be perfectly healthy?

If your concerned don’t add anything else for a while

I don’t QT, I never have, not everyone does depending on if you trust the supplier etc

Just don’t put LFS water in the tank again, if you can remember! Lol

Probably mixed with wild. Here are your choices. Each must choose their own way of fighting disease in the tank. It sounds like you want a clean environment and will be pretty vigilant. But, here they are:

1) Remove the fish and use a qt to house them for the next 76 days and keep the tank fallow (fishless) with no new additions of anything! Then, treat the fish with at least a metronidazole/prazzipro drug. Then, from now on, qt everything. Fish, coral, inverts, rock.

2) Let it ride. If the fish become ill then remove them and treat and go fallow. Same then as number one.

3) Let nature happen. If they die, wait to add more and just make sure every fish is healthy enough to fight disease when added.

Or some variation of any of those. Sometimes there is no right answer. We all run our systems different. These are just some of the choices I see. Although, I know what I would do and probably you too. :)

Good luck!

Thanks all I really appreciate the help!

How long is awhile? And I don’t think I’ll be forgetting to not add the water to the tank any time soon lol
If it makes you feel better when I got my 2 clowns I put then in without qt and they were from petco.
lol yea kinda

Personally I hate dealing with fish disease because no matter what I do I feel like it always sneaks it’s way in so I try to focus on fish health so that way their immune system can always fight off whatever is thrown at them. Firm believer in feeding well with a good nutrient export system
